Sorry to disappoint, but it looks as though the ad was referring to the reward coupon for getting 5+ punches in week 1 of the PA Festival. Like you I looked in vain for a coupon (I only achieved 1 punch last week) - I hope I'm wrong and a coupon may appear, but I'm not holding my breath.

    I hope you're wrong as well. ;)

As someone who's new here (don't let the year old join date fool you, I tried out the software for a week or 2 back then and walked away from it, so I really am new to this...) there were 2 things that kept me from investing in any content.

    1) the confusing sale/promo/discount/coupon/marketing

    2) not having any idea what would be considered the "foundation" content (Poser Debut on amazon comes with the Poser 2014 content library (which is like 4gb of stuff) to get you started... I wish DAZ had a foundation kit like that for a similar price. On a related note... it' a week too late that I understand I SHOULD have picked up V4/M4 last month.

The fact that a number of starter bundles don't include all of the "required content" from some of the individual bits kinda worried me too.

Hopefully there will be some coupon forthcoming, so #1 is less of an issue. I maintain hope it's a technical issue since there appear to have been a few over the weekend as evidenced by various forum threads. Luckily it seems that some of the customer service staff is happy to bend over backwards to help out (regardless of how big of a pain in the tush you are ;)

    Greetings,
DAZ Studio comes with Genesis, G2F, and G2M along with a bunch of basic content. Not sure how much it adds up to, storage-wise, but it's a good bit. As a PC member, there's also a bunch of freebies with additional content that come in the form of tutorials. There's also around a dozen tutorial videos, and a whole bunch of other stuff all for free on the store. I currently show 59 free items, some of which are software, but most of which is tutorials and free content. Including 'light editions' of all the older model animals.

I admit to tooting my own horn a little bit, but if you go to http://3dwishlist.com/specials you can 'Select None' to turn off all the tiers of discounts, and JUST click the 100% off button to see all the freebies. I say to do it that way because the 'Freebies' link on DAZ's own store doesn't include stuff like the tutorial bundles. (For example: http://www.daz3d.com/day-at-the-beach-bundle )

You should have installed the Genesis essentials and G2F/G2M essentials as well. That stuff forms the core of the 'foundation' content for current DAZ Studio versions.

The coupon being referred to was the coupon for folks who'd gotten to some multiple of 5 punches last week. It's unfortunate that the site messaging was as broad as it was, but that's all that was going on.

Neat site, wish that functionality was in the store by default. Since I doubt it's ever going to be added I hope you get yourself in a position for some kind of click-through affiliate program 8).

Regarding the freebies, ya I've scoured the site and rounded them all up since I started playing around with the software again. Only missed 1 day in the summer of freebies event so, with the few purchases I've made I've got enough to get by as figure things out.

    Number 1: agreed.

    Number 2: not so.

See, what Poser advertises is more than incomparable to what is used in 3D now. This is probably why the promos require a magnifying glass. Not delving deeper into that, Cypherfox correctly told you DS comes with content. Actually, three bundles, including stuff not available for sale. This starts with Genesis, Gen2M and Gen2F alongside their poses, Surf's Up Clothes for Gen2M, Persian Beauty Outfit and Basicwear for Gen2F, Toulouse Hair and Genesis versions of the following you cannot get separately (count the amount if you are curious):

    HAIR:

    ...

As I'd mentioned previously, I'd already grabbed all of that content. I was just highlighting that the /runtime from Poser Debut download on Amazon for $10 (click on the download option, not the physical disc) comes with a cornucopia of content for the investment. I just peeked at my /runtime and it's 6.93Gb, that covers a wide range of subject matter.

But back to the point I was trying to make (and apparently failed badly)... not having a good understanding of what foundation items are really required to make things work put me off of a couple of purchases that I should have made during the 80% off V4/M4 sale.

    For example:
    http://www.daz3d.com/anime-manga-enthusiast-bundle
    includes - http://www.daz3d.com/aiko-4-pro-bundle and http://www.daz3d.com/hiro-4-pro-bundle
However the "What's Included & Features" section of each lists the A4/H4 Bodysuit Upgrades, but states that those require the V4/M4 bodysuits that aren't included in the bundle itself.

And there were a couple more items I was keen on with similar quirks that I didn't pick up just because I didn't really comprehend what things were, or were necessary.

I am rather glad I held off on the gen3/4 shapes for Genesis though, as I'd also need to pick up base and morphs++ for each figure to get them up and running properly (assuming I'm still not confused about how that works). But if they offered the shapes, w/ textures and morphs for a decent price in 1 "foundation kit," I'd be ALL OVER THAT!

    Greetings,
Right... If you're really basically new, I'd recommend that you not get involved in V4/A4/etc., stuff just yet. My reason for saying that is that it's...older technology. This generally means stuff like, it doesn't bend quite right (without a lot of money on 'fixes' which slow everything down), clothes have trouble fitting to customized characters, and all of that is even worse for the males, as you can't even autofit clothing that was meant for females (but is reasonably multi-gender). Also you can't down-fit newer Genesis and G2[F/M] clothes to generation 4 characters. Eventually, when you're more comfortable with the technology, you can dive into autofitting generation 4 stuff to genesis/G2*, but it's not really worth thinking about at first.

If you can stick with Genesis or newer stuff, that'll get you a long way by helping you focus and not have to 'boil the ocean' in terms of understanding everything up-front. I'd also recommend ShareCG and http://www.wilmapsdigitalcreations.co.uk for some excellent freebies that work with Genesis.

P.s. Yes, I do get the occasional affiliate click-through. Mostly it goes to pay for hosting the site, though. Sometimes I get to buy a cool item or so from the store with the overflow. :)

The coupon is only handed out to people who participated in the PA sale punchadoodles. I presume that you did buy more than 5 articles during the PA sale qualifying for "punches" last week? ( http://www.daz3d.com/pa-sale-2014 )
If you did, then contact customer support and explain that you bought the items but didn't get the coupon. --> https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/requests/new

Other than that, there is no coupon.

No idea what info I'd need to update, all the info on my DAZ account is current.

Ya, I really have been focused on Genesis1 content with the few purchases I made. Genesis1 also dominates the top of my wishlist. followed by a select few things from Genesis2. I really like the idea of having everything work off 1 mesh. Being able to morph from m-f is alright, but being able to morph from m-f-gorilla-troll-alien-8 legged thingy is awesome.

My interest in the generation4 content is primarily due to the fact that there's like 10 years worth of content for it to play with, and there's a few choice items that have gen3/4 prereqs. For example, morphing fantasy dress, and the bodysuits seem almost essential from the amount of content there is developed around them.

So far I've had no issues with autofit on generation4 freebies I've found on random sites, just had to apply "smoothing modifier" a couple times to make some peek through go away (haven't tried shoes yet). Speaking of freebies I'm quite familiar with Wilmap's TON of EXCELLENT goodies, however my interests are much more aligned with all things Star Wars.

The coupon is only valid if you bought at least 5 punch-able sale items last week. If you are using Genesis you should not have bought the morph++ packs for the generation 4 figure as they are not directly usable on Genesis.

I haven't picked up any generation4 content at this point, but eventually it's likely to happen. Don't the morphs++ packs work with the GenX/2 ? Or am I completely misunderstanding what the GenX packs do?

  • jestmartjestmart Posts: 4,449

They do but frankly if you don't have older characters you created on the generation 4 figures I don't see much need for transferring their morphs with GenX.

  • CypherFOXCypherFOX Posts: 3,401

    Greetings,
You CAN convert the Morphs++ stuff over, but it's not going to look quite as good, and it's a pain. It's better to use the G2F Morphs to do the same thing, as they're native to G2F...

If you convert the Morphs++ stuff, you have to first dial your G2F to be V4, and then add in the Morphs++ items. And they may not play well with other G2F-based morphs.

As @jestmart says, unless you're converting a V4 character which is dependent on the Morphs++ package, I wouldn't bother.
