Does anyone know why sometimes when you "retrieve thumbnails" on an item in DIM, it doesn't seem to work? It doesn't grab the thumbnail and have it show?
Where does it keep them anyway, and is there some way of forcing it?

I have never used this before today :)
I have no idea what it is for, but it looks to me like the thumbnail is downloaded from the Store, but where DIM puts it, I have no idea.
What is it for anyway. Do you have missing icons for products, I don't seem to have that problem.
no, not missing icons inside DS. In the DIM, you can retrieve the thumbnail for the product you are downloading...so you can always tell what the product is when going through your stuff in DIM. To see if I want to d/l some of the older stuff if I can't tell what it is by the name.
I'm an Organizer - it bugs me that I have missing thumbs for the products in DIM. LOL.
I figured out a work around tho - swipe the thumb from the store, resize it to 140x , rename it to the product ID (13256.jpg etc) and stick itin C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Thumbnails with the others.
But still, I want the thing to work, dammit! :D
I sometimes wounder about this, myself, as I actually do have a few items in my DIM and even Smart Content that are missing icons or appearing as "Orphaned Files".
I new that I could look at the download information by hovering over the items in the Ready to Download tab, but I had no idea that an icon was available for that too.
If I wanted to know something about the product, I always used the 'I' icon to take me to the store information page. Thanks for pointing that out to me, I had no idea, and to be honest, I don't find much use for it anyway, but it should work as expected.
Right click on the item, and choose "retrieve thumbnail" and then when you hover over it, the store thumb should show up. :D It's a good way of finding out what an item is, if you can't work it out from the name.
I know about the 'i' taking me to the readme page - but all too often, the readme page is either NOT THERE, or it doesn't show the updates, or if you don't want to go online.
I don't use the Smart Content at all, so I have no idea if I would have any orphaned files. :D I organize all my content myself anyway, so I know where everything is. But i'm sure there's something that "cleans up the orphaned files".....I vaguely remember it. I'm not sure tho....
The thumbnail option in DIM has nothing at all to do with the Smart Content pane.
If you go to the drop-down menu in the Content Library, there is an option called 'Content DB Maintenance', and it has several options available. One of them is to sort out orphaned references (incorrect paths in the DB files)
Greetings,
Well, in order to find where your thumbnails are stored, you need to dig around a bit in DIM. The most likely place is, if you haven't changed it, one directory up from your downloads directory. So if you pull up DIM, go to the gear for configuration, select the 'Downloads' tab, you should see 'Download To:'. If you haven't changed that, try going to one folder level up from the Downloads, and there should be a Thumbnails directory there.
In the Thumbnails directory are all the product thumbnails, one per product, identified by {sku}.jpg.

I have found sometimes there just aren't thumbnails available for a product or 2, especially if they're new. I usually select all that I've downloaded and/or installed in DIM about once a month, and check for Missing Thumbnails.
