Thinking of buying a Kinect for Windows

They only go for about $200 and the SDK is a free download. Does anybody here use one in DAZ Studio, Carrara, or (heh) Blender?
If you have experience with one of these, can you tell me of anything I should know before moving forward?
I think it would be fun to get motion into my work, but I also think it may be helpful to get static poses into DAZ.

Hmm, you got me thinking about getting one, too! (I'm downloading the v2 SDK, even as I type this!)
Interesting...what can you do with the SDK if you don't have the device yet?
But yeah. $200? I can drop that in the DAZ store in just about any "non-punch" sale (I'm not participating in the current sale, kind of "on purpose"). And then turn around and whine to myself that I dread the animation options out there. At $200 I could break that cycle. Just hoping to find somebody else with a bit of experience first, because I also recognize that I could drop $200 on dinner, drinks, and entertainment for a lovely lady and myself.
It's good to have $200. It's better to have $200 and some guiding principles. ;-)
I don't know about Blender or DS. Poser 2014 Game Dev can be used the Kinect. There are threads about it over at RDNA and Rendo.
Check this thread out seems you can use the Kinect with a program called Brekal and export .bvh for use with DS

Here's a YouTube video of SCIFIFUNK using a Kinetic in Carrara with IPI software. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHHeCpYlGpw. You'll sometimes find him on the Carrara forum. ☺
If you go to Brekel's website, you'll see he's developing software for use with the Kinect 2. I didn't see anywhere exactly what this new software does (body? face? hands?), but he's open for beta testing (for those who already own the Kinect 2, I assume). He's also got a poll on his home page asking "Which 3D software do you prefer?" DAZ has only 5% of the votes, so anyone interested in seeing an app for Studio might want to consider popping over there and adding their vote.
Get familiar with the APIs, for one....
