Request for DAZ: colophon of promotional images

This is a feature request for the store and a related question.

I think it would be great and very useful for newbies as myself if the promo images of DAZ store products got a colophon or "how to" listing the products, light/render presets, software, etc, used indicating how that particular images were generated.

For example, I love the look of the rendering used in the Genesis 2 Morphs such as http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-head-shapes . So, what do you think is the combo of light/shader/render presets and render engine (if not DS) that can generate a similar look? This case is probably very basic, but for newcomers to 3D and DAZ, this kind of info can be as useful as full tutorials.

This particular look is achieved by simple untextured view of the morphs. The figure is only shadered in white, you toggle that from viewing options. I agree a workaround for newbies would be a nice thing, though I doubt the PAs would take to that. Too time-consuing, you know (not to mention secrets of the trade).

    A Colophon is a publisher's distinctive emblem.

Colophon: ... brief statement containing information about the publication of a book ... Such colophons might identify the book's designer, the software used, the printing method, the printing company, the typeface(s) used in the page design and the kind of ink, paper and its cotton content. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colophon_(publishing)

Sorry, publishing background. "How to" or "Making of" is probably better.

I wrote a brief tutorial and explanation of how to render a figure without diffuse textures for a New User contest last year. You can find it here. Depending on the exact look you want, there may be additional things you need to do, but that should at least provide a starting point.

Agreed, the other usage of the word is somewhat historical, being in common use around the 17th century.

i would luv to learn how to recreate this promo

    it looks maybe using Uberlayer2?

it doesn't say if it's rendered in DS, could be reality or octane.

or does Uberlayer2 work in the other renderers?

Uberlayer 2 works in DS only. Shaders and such are tied to render engine. It's why there are Poser presets and DS presets.

You could use overlays on the base texture. In DS you have the LIE. Both Poser and DS have dirt scripts/plugin (there are a separate purchase) OmniFreaker also sells a layered shader. There are several different products out there for producing the look you are after. If you are after a one click texture, you might have to search. Some vendors do offer "clean" and "dirty" textures.

These are the neatest promos I'v'e seen lately and I'd love to know the lighting (and software used for the comic book layouts).

Some really terrific and unique work there.

I'm 99% confident the plain renders from the morph sets are are not actually rendered in DazStudio. The reason (I think) they look so nice is they have a very nice bounce light effect. My most educated guess is that they were rendered in Lux.

You can get pretty close in Studio, but it really requires the use if The omnifreaker environment sphere set to GI, Which makes the render times hideous for all but the most basic scenes. The below render took 3 minutes, any complex hair and it would take hours.

If you want me to I'll post the scene/explain my setup

Terminology precisions aside, the request to DAZ (and collaborators) is simply that promotional images should be accompanied with a brief note stating main tools used to generate the images, i.e., figures and props, renderer (DAZ, Lux, etc), main shaders, post-processing, if any.

Some promos already got an stamp with Daz Studio Render (http://www.daz3d.com/daz-originals/daz-studio-4-historical-flooring-shaders). Some products sheets include a note with Additional Products used in Promo Images (http://www.daz3d.com/high-garden-outfit-for-genesis-2-female-s). Why not formalize and extend this kind of info? I believe it would be good not only for educational purposes, but also to promote additional sales. It's more honest, too, IMHO.

cheers to honesty in promos. :) it helps when they include the lightset used.

Sorry, for the late reply. I've been helping my Dad move, and apparently this thread got lost in the shuffle. Here's my Daz morph set light setup. Word of warning, it is not quick to render. It uses the omnifreaker UE2 GI which isn't exactly quick.

Quick note: make sure your ray bounces are set to 1 in render settings otherwise you'll need to mess around with the strength of the bounce light.

*edit: here's the light setup with a textured G2
