can't find mike's exe

Ordered Mike 4 base ages ago and had no problem finding/installing that, back then. Just re downloaded that (all 4 folders) and do not see any exe or whatever to click to install him.
Also, which early version of studio did power poser first appear?

DAZ 3D content is now supplied as ZIP files, so there wont be an EXE.
The best way to install content is using the DIM (DAZ Install Manager), but if you give me a few minutes, I will download the ZIPs for M4 base to see what they contain.
OK, the four ZIP files you downloaded, all contain a folder called 'Content'
For the one called IM00007877-01_Michael4Base.zip , you need to go into the Content folder, and drag and drop the Runtime and Readme folders into your DAZ Library (mine is called 'My DAZ 3D Library' but yours may be called 'My Library') Assuming that you are on a PC?
Do exactly the same with IM00007877-02_Michael4BaseStudioCF.zip, these are the DS materials for M4.
Do exactly the same with IM00007877-03_Michael4BasePwrLoader.zip which is the PowerLoader, and it has been around since version 3 I think. It will work in any version of DS4x.
I am not certain where everything in the file called IM00007877-04_Michael4BasePuppeteerStudioCF.zip goes, but it is only a Pupeteer preset for M4. If you really need to know, I can find out for you.
Once you have installed the Base M4, you may need to run a bat file as well, but I can tell you where to find it once you have it all installed.
I see no my library anywhere within the daz folder. Windows has Documents library. Don't know what the heck happened on daz's end as everything now is utterly convoluted as compared to just a few years ago. Appreciate the help tho.
Your content folder may be called anything -- "Content" was the DS3 default, "My Library" was the DS4 default, and "My DAZ 3D Library" is the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) default.
I'll delete and re download with the manager then. I plan to use carrara down the road. Will most or all models for studio work or import into carrara?
Meaning, to get stuff into bryce, I many times must use studio first to get something into bryce.
Also, when I got the latest studio I got a link to a page of start up tuts. This intro was utterly no help on this end. Know of another more free comprehensive beginner guide? This latest version seems to have many significant changes. Thanks.
The DIM (DAZ Install Manager) by default, installs all of it's content to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library. You can change that, but I would leave it there for the moment. Both Carrara and Poser can read the content from there without any further changes.
DIM will create the folder for you. You MUST however, tell DAZ Studio where the content is installed to, DIM and DS do not communicate. You need to go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, and enter the path shown above as BOTH DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats in the area provided.
When using DAZ 3D content inside Carrara, there is no need to 'Import' anything, the content can be read from the same library (My DAZ 3D Library) that DAZ Studio uses.
The Genesis/Genesis2 figures now work in Carrara 8.5, but not in earlier versions. Earlier versions of Carrara can also use the native Poser format for Generation 4 figures (V4, M4 etc)
The beginner guide may not cover Installation in any great detail, but working your way through the (free) tutorials is an excellent way of learning the program.
If you have any further questions, please just ask, there is always someone here to help.
I used the DM and upon opening studio it asked whether to search for pertinent content, and found what I installed.
See no way to enter a path, if I still need to do that. To add anything, it has the drop down...
If that little search feature comes up each time I'm all set.
In saying free tuts do you mean those any and everywhere or a set series in say studio's forum stickies?
Edit. The search doesn't come up again. It puts stuff in My Documents. But when I go in preferences the drop down doesn't find it.
The way to add DS and Poser folders is as explained earlier.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager (as shown below), and then use the plus sign beside the DAZ Studio Formats AND Poser Formats to expand them.
Then use the Add button (as shown) to add the paths for BOTH kinds of content. If you used the default location for DIM, then you MUST add the path C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library for both types of content. Just use the path as shown, do NOT add Runtiem to the Poser path, just enter it as displayed in the DIM as the install path for content.
Sorry, I meant to reply to your comment. If you look here http://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=asc&order=price&q=tutorials&x=0&y=0
there are several interactive tutorials which will run within DS Sci Fi Warrior, Inside The Asylum, Day at the Beach etc etc.
These should help to get you familiar with the new version of DAZ Studio.
Haha, I give! Thanks for the help and I'm done with this. Utterly convoluted and Nothing is working right. No matter where I, or the "manager", puts folders/add, studio won't see them. Even trying to upgrade bryce 5 to 6 isn't working. None of this was an issue just a few years back!! Bryce needs studio but it's not working with the new version (naturally). The only way to straighten this out now is either a phone call or remote access. Where do you live? Ha.
If you have entered the paths to your content, DAZ Studio will definitely see it, it works the same way today as it did in version 2 and 3.
Can you post a screenshot of your expanded DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats from the Content Directory Manager, that will get it sorted out easily.
Also, did you install to the default location for DIM, My DAZ 3D Library?
You would be better asking any questions you have about Bryce on that forum, they have many active members, and you should get an answer fairly quickly.
I got an answer from support and they told me to login to the manager. Now all of a sudden I can no longer login to that. This has to be a sign to move on or lose my sanity but thanks for the effort. I've got bryce 5 and carrara 8. I'll just get models that can go straight into bryce. Someone hacked my pc a few months back and deleted all my prior work... so you may discern my attitude of attrition here.
DIM just stopped allowing logins a short while ago, it has never happened to me before, but it has happened to about six people in the last few minutes. Try it again in an hour or two, and I'm sure it will be fixed.
What you really need to check in your DAZ Studio setup, is the Content Directory Manager, to make sure that the paths are entered correctly. You have to do that in Carrara and Poser as well, or they wont work either. I know it can get frustrating, but it really is a simple thing to check on, and fix if needs be.
You seem a kind soul. Pretty good for an addict ; )
Haha - thank you for that.
Just addicted to DAZ at the moment, too old for any other kinds. I hope you get it all sorted out soon, but you know where we are anyway.
Studio content search feature should pop up on each start up!! Anyway, I made a special folder on the desktop for items and linked Studio right to it. It sees the folders....but won't load the object. This is what I mean by convoluted.
I think you are going about things the wrong way. It really is simple.
I wouldn't put a folder of content on the Desktop, but even so, it should still work, as long as you have told DAZ Studio where it is.
You MUST add the folders to the Content Directory Manager, or DS will not see your content. When adding a path to Poser Formats, it is done in EXACTLY the same way as DAZ Studio Formats (the same path EXACTLY). If you have both Poser and DS content, then you MUST enter the path to both formats in the Content Directory Manager.
Also, all of your content will appear in the Content Library pane, please note that 'Smart Content' is something completely different, and content that you get form elsewhere will almost certainly NOT have Metadata, therefore it will NOT appear in Smart Content.
Installing DAZ 3D content has never been easier. Using DIM, all of the content that you have bought at DAZ 3D over the years,. will be installed automatically to the correct folders. Not only that, but items which are updated, are shown within DIM, and can be downloaded and installed by a simple click.
DIM does not communicate with DAZ Studio, YOU have to tell DAZ Studio where the content is installed to.
On the point of the search popping up every time I load DAZ Studio, I hope that NEVER happens, it would drive me insane.
Interesting. No matter where I put a downloaded object file, studio, although it Lists the object and it's associated files, won't display or load the object itself.
I keep getting the same error at the end of the manager's installation and maybe that has something to with it. Maybe not as studio did see the Negarian Base which I no longer have.
Isn't there a feature in studio where you click to search for newly installed items!? I understand this should be more than easy but nothing is working with this. I've never had such difficulty. All that was on XP whereas I'm on Win 7 so maybe that's it?
Ok, studio 4... loaded Cloister finally.
But the older version which bridges to bryce can't read that same path/folder. I need this in order to get it into bryce. Studio 4 gives an error when trying to Export it into bryce.
See the image below. You get the menu shown, by clicking on the dropdown at the top right of the Content Library pane.
You also have not shown me what the entries in your Content Directory Manager look like, that is probably where the problem lies?
Older versions of DAZ Studio should be able to read any path that contains content. Obviously, it will not see DUF files which were not used before version 4.5, but it WILL see the older Poser Format stuff, and even the older DAZ style Scenes (.DAZ). Genesis of course, will not work in say version 3 of DAZ Studio.
This is ok for now and thanks for the help. I'll be 53 in Nov. I neither look or act it however. You can tell the latter perhaps by my style.
Ah, another youngster :coolsmirk:
I have you well beaten there too, by about 15 years, my b'day is in November too by the way.
I'd still be skateboarding if not for the stigma.
So your sun should be in tropical scorpio... and sidereal libra. Sun is fallen in libra. Have some challenges with father or authority figures? I certainly did and do.
I should post elsewhere for this but I'm wanting to do my own unique anis without too much reliance on purchased models. I want to do stuff like Iasos does. More based on effects. Looking for ideas and wish I could find a program where I could morph geometric Meshes with backgrounds of my choosing. Like what 3d program would a geometry teacher like?
I am Sagittarius, that's all I know :)
I don't know the kind of art you describe (or lasos) maybe someone else can help with that.
There are many 3D programs that can create geometric shapes, not all of them can animate, but you could have a look at some like MOI (Moment of Inspiration) or some of the CAD programs for drawing shapes?
I want whatever Dan Winter uses in his presentations. You should check out Iasos... He's the pioneer of New Age music but does video as well that goes with the music.
Sag. so you're late in Nov. so your sun isn't fallen. My co worker and I have fallen suns. Neither of us have our biological fathers and have been abused by those in authority. And abused isn't too strong of a word.
