Which lion are you using? If it's this one or another version that uses transmapped hair for the mane, then there are some things you can do to get the mane to render more quickly. If you convert the mane to the UberSurface shader, you can turn Occlusion and Raytracing off...this should help a lot. I have some detailed instructions on the process in my hair tutorial.

Yes it's the new one. The render time is awful comparatively despite the great results. I'll try your suggestions. Thank you :)

If you have more than a couple of males then reduce them as I was told the manes take a lot of rendering time.
