New Install...can't find V4 M4 or Genesis files but Gen3 characters are there

WakakanadaWakakanada Posts: 207

I bought a new iMac and installed 1400 purchases via DIM. Studio is in the general Applications area, but the content is in my own private user area. I think I pointed DIM correctly as the first time I opened DS4 I was able to load props and Gen 3 characters. However, when I try to load V4 and M4 they cannot be found, and any Genesis based character says it cannot find a list of files and I get block people being loaded with textures. I remember years ago that there were issues trying to figure out how to get power loader to work for Gen4 characters [i think the answer involved the order of installation and location, but cannot find those forum posts any longer]. There were also issues about where to put Genesis character files. Apparently hoping DIM would magically make it work did not come to fruition, so I would greatly appreciate assistance from forum members on how to complete this fresh install of DS4 via DIM on my new iMac running OSX, thanks

In DS, Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", and post a screenshot.

Are you getting the Powerloader dialog with V4/M4?

Hi thanks for the reply. Here is the screenshot. I don't get anything when I try to load V4.2 just a pop up box saying "The 'Victoria 4' support folder could not be found." When I close that window there is one underneath titled "PowerLoader : Import" with Basic and Advanced tabs but none really contain any content.

I also show what I get when I try to load basis genesis, and when I try to load a genesis based character...

And I assume you're using the default install location in DIM? Let me get the Mac guru to take a look.

Actually, I changed the location to:

    /Users/Daddy/Downloads/DAZ3D/DIM

Yeah, I knew this could break things, but it seemed to work for the most part! I didn't want the content available on the computer's public folders.

DS4.5+ (64 Bit) is installed in the public folders area:

    Macintosh HD/Applications/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4 64-bit

Ah, then in DS go to Content Directory Manager and add that path under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats (and remove the others if there's nothing there).

    Hello,

this is how my setup is done, showing you can have a lot of flexibility.

I also have my DIM Download directory on a network mounted disk on my local network, so my other system doesn't have to download everything again.

Thanks, Based on your advice I tried that. When I added the path in the Poser Formats I got a pop up asking if I wanted to continue despite the folder not being a Runtime folder. I clicked yes, but if I should have said no, please advise as I am trying not to repeat past mistakes with my older computer where I just said "yes" to every pop up.

When I was looking for the file on my computer I came across the folder Downloads/DAZ3D/DIM which contained many zip files along with corresponding .dsx files. As I looked at the names, these appear to be the same files that do not load properly [only giving me box figures and and error message saying the data files are not able to be found. There are also folders [see screenshot].

Should I be pointing Content Directory Manager to that folder? I don't really like having that content in Downloads and would rather move it to my Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio folder or possibly the My Library subfolder which is currently empty?

Sorry for being so ignorant on set up issues. I do enjoy the actual use of the product once I get things to work!

Those are the files downloaded by DIM, not where they're being installed. In DIM go to Settings > Installation, that shows the path (or paths, if you set up more than one) where the content will be installed. That's the path that needs to be in DAZ Studio's Content Directory Manager.

Thanks...it's getting there! Genesis and G2 products are now loading properly. But Victoria 4.2 and M4 are MIA with a pop up saying the support folder could not be found. When I close that box, and empty power loader window opens.

Do you have the path listed as both DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats?

For some reason the poser format directory addition didn't take, so I corrected that. I also did "scan known directories for files" and now Vicky and M4 are loading! And power loader is working properly too! Thanks for your help. It's so great to have people like you and others on this forum assisting us in this hobby.

...now to see if I can get Animate 2, Reality, and Lux working...
