A render of my 3d set based on Frank Lloyd Wrights Ennis house based in Los Angeles.

This model has been a labour of love right from when I learned that Ennis house was used in the Sci Fi Classic "Blade Runner".

I attempted to follow in the producers footsteps by building my own Ennis house in order to use parts of it in a similar style apartment I am building for the Sci Fi Funk animated movie.

The model it's self took months of effort on and off over approximately one and a half years. The rendering was completed in just under 3 weeks including animation.

I used Carrara to build the model and the Octane plug in to render it. The set exhausts Carrara's ability to provide editing frame rate, and so it is rendered in pieces.

I'd like to make a version 2 at some point to expand the model, provide more dramatic lighting and correct a few errors, but the animated movie will now dominate for the next year or so.

    I'd love to see his buildings in L.A. esp. this one, which is more to do with it's association with Blade Runner than anything else to be fair.

    Very nice. I don't remember this in "Blade Runner", but its been a long while since I watched it. it does have that surreal atmosphere, sort of ...

    The Octane plugin for Carrara seems to be getting some attention, do you think of it as a big step up? (vs. Carrara's built-in renderer).

    Hi Steve

    The internals of the house weren't in Blade Runner, but they used it's look and feel to come up with a more claustrophobic set for the apartment.

    I've followed in the same footsteps. I shall be using the columns and some of the furniture in my series soon now.

    I think everyone should get into this plug in and reap the rewards, namely 1) speed (you'll have to pay for graphics cards), 2) light scattering across objects (so everything looks more real)

    Wonderful work - great modelling and lighting, and I love the tranquil pace of the animation too. A real showcase!

    Awesome and outstanding work as usual Steve!! What was your average frame render time for this one?

    Could I ask a quick favor? Would you be willing to pop over into this thread (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/47200/) and offer a bit of advice? Not being a hard core animator, and typically looking for what some have called "uber realistic 3D" in static images, I'm really out of my element offering advice. Your insights would be very valuable.

    I'll have a look at that thread but note that at the time I'm writing this I'm very much learning about Octane myself.

    Frames - I started out at 600 samples, hit a problem, ran out of time and the 2nd half of the animation is just 200 samples mainly (some are 250 or 400). On 200 samples my system renders out these frames in 40+ seconds per frame.
