Admittedly I'm no genius on the genesis world but I'm confused. I thought most genesis products were based on the same mesh. I suspect there are differences between Genesis and Gen2. However Several of RawArts products "require" Freak 5. What is the difference between Gen(2) and Freak 5 that make F5 a requirement?
I'd like to buy one or two of the cat world products but I don't have F5. . . have no use for F5. . . and my retirement won't allow for frivolous purchases.

The requirement for Freak 5 will be in the underlying morphs - the product will work without you having Freak 5, but the body shapes will not look the same without them.

As I understand it, yeah, some character morphs have been created with sculpts made through third-party software and can't be achieved by simply changing the default morphs for the base figure. I'd expect Freak 5 is one of those and that characters requiring it need some of the shapes derided from its unique end result.

It's like characters which require Michael or Victoria, basically.

I'm guessing it's possible to use such products, but they won't look as advertised.

Much like you will find many character morphs being based off of the victoria or michael morphs for genesis instead of the generic genesis base...a number of my larger characters are built off of the freak morph to give them extra size.
You can apply the morphs without the freak morphs, but they will not look like how they are intended.

I bought the Cat World Bundle back when it was in the sales early on. At the time, I didn't have F5 either. The base model shapes worked fine without the F5 model. The one that didn't work well was the sabertooth tiger model. However, it still loaded, it just wasn't as big as the promo pictures. So, if you are fine with smaller less muscled cats, the product will still work. At least, I was pretty happy with the results. I did end up picking up the F5 bundle when it went on sale though, but not because I was dissatisfied with any of the cat world morphs.

I've included a link to my gallery. The two cat renders were done without owning the F5 model. Admittedly, I'm definitely still a beginner, but they weren't too terribly bad.

It might be an idea for some vendors to include at least one promotional visual of their creation on the base figure (or at least a cut-away comparison of with/without). There are two or three human characters I've got, which demanded V5/V6 or someone else, who I didn't have at the time, but it only seemed to make very minimal difference. I remember thinking, "Damn it, if I'd known back then, I would have purchased it much earlier!"

Sometimes you can have even better results with unexpected body-shape combinations. I've got Raw Art's Grey for Genesis, for example, but experimented with the skin on the various HD Alien pre-sets for Sickleyield's/Fuseling's pack for the Genesis 2 Creature Creators. While the skin didn't match with Genesis 2 Male, it worked fine for Genesis 2 Female - and the result were splendid! It makes an even more realistic Grey than using the intended Genesis 1 figure does! :D Has an amazingly organic, slick appearance to it.
