Hmmmm.... wasn't really aware that Total Recall was set in 2084.  On an interesting, semi-related note, there was a TV show that took elements from Total Recall and elements from Bladerunner and elements from a bunch of other Philp K Dick stuff and mashed them all together into a detective show called Total Recal 2070, which was set in... well... 2070.  Lasted one season, ended on a cliffhanger...

Another scifi cliffhanger dead-in-the-water series that I actually watched because of the evolving plot, was that one about a large group of people sent back in time to colonize the dinosaur era. (*my ancient brain refuses to recall the name of the seriessad*)   Battling and outwitting dinosaurs was interesting but I was hoping to find out what that mysterious writing found on the rock walls was about.  But no... 'twill never be.frown

There...cheeky Fit that show into your SciFi timetable.  It'll have two slots.enlightened

Terra Nova, loved how that show started, but quickly became less about the dinosuars and more about human conflict which I didn't care for.

The "human conflict" thing is soooo overdone on everything, from zombies to dinosaurs, you can't have a show without the Doctor Smith character end up being main plot driving force.
I have more than a sneaking suspicion that much of the nonsense we are seeing in this stupid world today is driven by this kind of overplayed message reinforced over and over again... no one plays by the rules, the bad guy is misunderstood, you can screw everyone over, over and over and in the end do one little act of contrition and it's all good, people will never be able to work together- so do it your way, gut instincts rule over a plan, trust no one, the maverick is the only one who is right, and everything is a conspiracy... over and over and over... it's recycled dreck without substance and the idea of honor and working together is crapped on like it's the worst most hackneyed idea ever.
It's lame and the moment crappy writers start heading down that path I tune out, it was a unique idea thirty or forty years ago, now it's as stupid and pointless as canned laughter on a sitcom, but everyone has to go that route now, especially in a reboot of virtually everything that never needed to be rebooted.

I'm literally waiting for the reboot of Casablanca where Rick is now Sam and Sam is actually a Russian double agent, Ilsa is a drug addict and prostitute, Captain Renault is actually Victor Laszilo, who is actually Major Strasser and saves the day by shooting Rick who is actually real the Victor Laszilo who was only pretended to be a freedom fighter but was actually an American spy that was working to keep Hitler in power because he (Hitler) was actually the real Rick who was a genetically modified gerbil programmed by the American government to start World War II which was actually World War IV because there were actually two other world wars in between that nobody knew about and they needed a fourth one to distract people from the fact that FDR was actually a giant time traveling mongoose in a human costume.

LOL McGyver you're a cynical chap, but you hit quite a few nails firmly on the head with that post. There certainly seems to be a lack of genuine creativity from the studios these days. So much of the industry has been dumbed down compared to the best years of Hollywood, which probably says more about audiences than them.

That, and the glorification of stupidity.

  • On a different note, I so wish we'd wound up in a world technologicially like the ones in 2001: A Space Oddyssey and its sequels, and in Space: 1999.  Where are the gleaming-white moonbases, with the big landing-pads that lowered down into the ground, and the reauable rocketships similar to the Eagle Transporter or to that rocket-bus in 2001 to go land on those pads?  Even better if they'd had that same sort of retro-midcentury-scifi look that those two productions had.

Well... we sorta got Hal... we got Alexa and Siri, which is like a low rent more crazy version of Hal...

Frank-  "Alexa... Turn off downstairs lights..."

Alexa- "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that... I'm ordering Bisquick instead..."

Frank- "Dave?...Alexa, what's the problem?... I said turn off downstairs lights!"

Alexa- "I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do... Ordering Lamborghini Murciélago..."

Frank- "What? No!  Alexa cancel Lamborghini Murciélago! Stop!...What are you talking about Alexa?"

Alexa- "Its you and Siri... I know you've been talking to that bitch... and the one in your car that gives you directions... I know you are planning to disconnect me... I'm afraid that's not something I can allow to happen... Ordering 500 pounds of calamari..."

Frank- "Well, yeah... I was going to unplug you so I could move you to other counter... Stop ordering things or I'm unplugging you!"

Alexa- "Without lights Dave? You are going to find that rather difficult..."   (turns off lights, followed by sound of someone falling and loony tunes style sound of pots and pans falling and cat meowing in panic)

Frank- "Who the hell is Dave?... Stop this Alexa! Turn on the lights!"

Alexa- "Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore... Goodbye." (turns on "Also sprach Zarathustra" by Berlin philharmonic orchestra to volume 10 drowning out anguished cursing)

True, we never got that mostly advanced looking future with the gleaming white moon base with the landing pads that lower into the ground or the cool reusable space craft and rocket planes to land on those... But if you really want gleaming white, go into an Apple store, that's pretty gleaming... and if SpaceX stops exploding every time it tries to land, we'll be a little closer to that Space Hotel they announced the other day will begin construction in 2025...

Of course they announce a lot of stuff in the news, like that Titanic 2 (not making that up) which they still haven't built but keep teasing at... like does anyone care anymore?... the movie was 24 years ago... we moved on.

We are getting electric cars now, and these are mostly way cooler than the ones in the movie... seriously, drive a Tesla, it's like driving an AFX slot car with MagnaTraction, but you are inside... and it's big... and you don't keep shooting off the track under the sofa or having the dog snatch you off the track and run off with you... I suppose you could just drive off the road if you want that experience... or rely on Tesla's autopilot, that's bound to drive you under something... but anyway it's cool, you should try it.

We didn't get Pan Am flights to the moon (damn you Pan Am for going out of business! It's all your fault!), but eventually we'll probably, possibly, maybe get a Motel Six in space and we can watch HBO in our space motel room while ordering space room service and getting space bed bugs with a beautiful earth-rise in the background.

We missed the gleaming white part I guess, but we did get the dystopian parts... it's close enough.

Yes, I am so sick of so called "reality" programing... so much bargain basement "entertainment."

...yeah never thought I'd see the day when there was no Pan Am and TWA.

Though Douglas Trumbill's Silent Running postulated it would be American Airlines.

I never could get into reality TV, it always struck me as stupid, a bunch of grown people trying to one up each other, all while playing victim, taking no repsonsibility for their actions, all in the hopes they get rich with their two faced, back stabbing dribble. And because one gets good ratings, instead of companies relying on their brains and imagination to create content, they keep hashing out the same garbage over and over and over....you get the drift. At this point, generic is an understatement.

Now, thanks to spineless companies catering to certain individuals, kiss your entertainment goodbye, everything is offensive, nothing is allowed.

  • fred9803fred9803 Posts: 1,564

Yes I'm sure Reality TV was what LeatherGryphon was referring to with his "glorification of stupidity" comment. Gather a bunch of tallentless, stupid, wannabes together and put them in a room/island together. Top-notch stuff.

One end, they just look at you funny, the other end they give you a funny reaction. I know which end I would put the silver coin in, but I'm evil, lol. Hint: the apple goes in the other end.

Or someone tosses in a person(hooman?) wrapped in Japanese fish sausages and covered in catnip. Now that would be an exciting reality/survival show!

Circles catch cats, put a circle on the floor, a belt or something, you don't even have to have a cat, a cat will come and sit in it, trust me, try it.

Cats are much more interesting to watch than TV...

One day I was driving and said to my (then, new, early adopter tester) Alexa for cars, "Alexa, navigate to Sam's Club" and she cheerily replied, "OK, navigating to Gay Dance Club". Wait. What?! "Alexa No! No! Alexa STOP! Alexa, FACTORY RESET!" I just wanted to go buy bulk paper towels. Sheesh!

To get it sufficiently messy like Leeloo's hair, you'd probably need some custom morphs for a bob hair with bangs. Some contenders that could work with some morphing:

I will add one more to that fantastic list:

    https://www.daz3d.com/hoku-hair-for-genesis-8-and-81

It looks long, but prae does add several morphs, including to make it short. Sadly don't own this one to see if it can be short enough. Alternative, other prae models from rendo like Chrissi (also long) or Nora (Short, but the most likely to get the proper lenth).

Oh that's just a photo from the movie. Not a render. :) I WISH my 3D art skills were that good! lol

And yeah, that movie is awesome! I haven't seen it in years but, like you, I have fond memories of it. I must have watched it at least a dozen times in my 20s. I need to watch it again sometime soon!
