invisible in render but still cast a shadow? Help

I can't understand why, in display/render settings....
I can turn 'cast shadows' on or off, as well as "visible in render."
but if i have "invisible in render" and "cast shadows on" why doesn't it work?
I used to use pwCatch to handle this, but none of my pwShaders work anymore and nothing I tried reinstalling them doesn't work either.
I'm just frustrated why a simple DS function doesn't work. Can anyone help?
On an unrelated topic, I'm also incredibly frustrated that Daz still hasn't fixed the ability to load pmd morphs, it was usable before and now its not, it drives me BATTY!!!

LOL My pleasure oh and I forgot to mention if you want an easy conversion to keep all the surface setting the same try this http://takeokensei.deviantart.com/art/Ubersurface-1-upgrade-preset-405080407 I think the only setting that needs adjusting is Bump
...interesting, in one scene I turned he visibility to the render engine off with the cast shadows on, and the prop I used was not visible to the render engine but still cast the shadows I needed.
Here is the pic. The cloud shadows on the far side terrain of the by were done by using the puddle prop from P3DA's Trash Stash which had their visibility turned off for the render engine yet had cast shadows "on".
