I'm curious too since GTX 980 is also limited at 8 in the ds view port.
Spose doesn't really matter anyway, 4+ looks over exposed in view port, though would be cool to select which lights to preview. I'm just curious what it is that determines the light limit in viewport.
It's set by the OpenGL specs of the graphics card and its driver — I'm actually surprised to see a laptop system supporting 16 lights, the standard for most non-professional-level cards (which are all amazingly powerful and hideously expen$$$ive) is only 8.
it was my first real computer
(I do not count the windows 98 one I learnt on the year before)
got it end of 2008
no graphics card just an integrated chip and studio crashes loading almost anything on it
reason I used carrara all these years, it handled carrara and Poser too not studio
It says it previews 16 lights but does it actually show 16 lights if you load them all?
I think your laptop's bragging,
I does, I tried it
looked at each light in turn and could see effect in preview,
but it crashed before I could render result, loading a cube!!!!
I did say it was a crappy laptop!
Because it can. That depends on the constructor and it's OpenGL implementation
See "http://feedback.wildfiregames.com/report/opengl/device/Intel 965/963 Graphics Media Accelerator"
There is one parameter to look for : GL_Max_Lights. That one will give you the max number of preview light for DS
It seems the intel 965 really can go up to 16
If you look at the GTX 780 for example, the max number is 8 =>"http://feedback.wildfiregames.com/report/opengl/device/GeForce GTX 780"
Same goes for the GTX 760 =>"http://feedback.wildfiregames.com/report/opengl/device/GeForce GTX 760"
