I had forgotten about this after updating to 4.20 until today, so looked up this thread. One thing I did remember, in case the instructions are not working for anyone here, is that I had do the same in My Daz Connect Library folder. This time I did both before seeing if it worked, so I can't say for sure if it needed to be done in this location like last time.

Since I'm using macos, the location would be somewhat different from those using windows, but for me it is under Documents —> DAZ 3D —> Studio —> My Daz Connect Library —> data —> cloud —> 1_42071 —> data —> daz 3d —> genesis 8 —> female 8_1 —> morphs —> daz 3d

    And ... —> genesis 8 —> male 8_1 —> ...

Alternatively, can be found by searching for folders with the name "base pose head".

Edit: I see a couple of other people have already mentioned this

Edit 2: Although it worked after I did everything, upon reloading the scene one part of the expression was no longer working: eyes closed. Had to use eyes blink instead.

I've done everything here in the thread but for some reason when I used a 8.0 expression on a 8.1 figure the expression seems to be dialed to like 800%, the face is completely destoryed or mangled.

Edit: Ok I think I fixed it, I had Auto Face Enhancer installed, I deleted it and everything seems to be working fine now.

  • Did that and now that genesis 8 work on g8.1, the g8.1 expressions no longer work on g8.1

    So, what did you do?

That's not written very well and for some reason, it also gives wrong advice.

Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.

    The dummy/placeholder files are located in;

...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)

Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.

Note 1; If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path
Note 2; Do not remove any files from "FACS" or "FACSExpressions" folders

  • Thanks for the info will try later if it works.Maybe the problem was that i added facs and facsexpressions in a rar as well. That was the step i had doubts about

I have exactly the same issue.
I could swear it worked before and I´m not sure when it stopped. Anyways, I think I have narrowed it down to beeing an issue with keyframing.
Here´s how to recreate the issue:

    1. Open up a fresh scene and load a Genesis 8.1 female. (I haven´t checked males but might be the same)
    2. Dial in the "Eyes Closed" morph to whatever value you like. Everything should work so far and it will continue to work as long as you stay at frame 0.
    3. Now move your timeline slider to any other frame and set a keyframe with the "Eyes Closed" morph still dialed in. It still works at this point but...
    4. Save and reload your scene. The "Eyes Closed" morph has stopped working and your figures eyes are open again.

As far as I can tell the "Eyes Closed" morph is the only one that is affected by this so far but it´s a big issue if one is doing a lot of batch rendering like I do. Everytime the queue loads a new scene the expresion is messed up.
We can´t be the only ones with that problem. Anyone else?

Could be a symptom of having the morph (eyes closed) installed in several locations, not only in the official locations but also within character folders.

Some months ago I was wondering why the length of G8F figures was reset every other time I opened a scene and found the lash morphs in several places they were not supposed to be.
After removing the misplaced and unneeded morphfiles, the lashes haven't been acting up since.

While looking for the lash morphs, I also found that having unnecessary duplicates of base morphs included within installation files for characters/clothing was not something limited to only one product.

The genesis 8.1 basic eyelashes. Dont really know which ones exactly but some are g8f and some are for g8.1.My models cant even close their eyes naturally as well and i think it all started after g8.1 released

That actually seemed to be the reason for my problem.
Somehow the morphs have sneaked their way into the FACS folders of my 8.1 figures. As these folders usually only contain "alias" and "facs" files the eCTRLEyesClosed morphs seemd to be missplaced there.
Deleting them indeed got rid of the problem.

Thank you very much @PerttiA !

The method in the original post works for me. However lately Daz has started giving me an error when loading the models saying it can't find files and I have to press "Skip". This is very frustrating when I am rendering a large number of files using Render Doctor because the doctor will just literally freeze and wait for me to press Skip. Is there a way for me to a stop these "can't find files" errors?

For now I am just using an auto-clicker set to left click every 1 second wherever I leave the mouse so I can walk away. Thankfully the error window shows up in the same position every time.

Is this for new models or ones that you have already bought and used in the past?  In redoing my installations with a new external hard drive, I test loaded a lot of content that I had bought but not previously loaded and discovered that several produced "can't find file” errors.  Clicking Skip results in something not being loaded and it may be an important something; if it’s a geometry file, then the product won’t load.  Clicking Locate File is time consuming to find the file.  In digging into the code of the base file, I almost always discovered that there was one or more lines of code that referred to a file path location that was similar to but not the same as the location of the file when the product was installed.  When I corrected the file path location issues, the product loaded without throwing “can’t locate file” errors.

The other solution, which I initially started to use, was to create a folder path location as prescribed in the code and copy the needed files to this “wrong” path location so that it matched the code.

I'm a little confused. I'd LOVE to try this because the 8.1 models are amazing but the expressions are seriously lacking. Jaw Open/Close? Little to no lip control? Anyway... "Right-click the Base Pose Head folder (Or alternatively the FACS folder in the same location) " I have both. Which one am I sending to a .zip? Both of them? I dn't want to delete something I need.

@DDCreate - ignore the stuff about the FACS folders, that's crept into the explanation that the OP copied here, but isn't actually correct to the method I originally tested.

The stuff about the Cloud folders is probably about Daz Connect installs, but if you used DIM or Central to install the packages, that's unlikely to be a concern.

Thanks Matt. I'm still having issues though. The 8.1 Base Pose Head and Expressions folders no longer exist on my computer. I deleted them and all files in them. When I try to apply an expression, nothing happens. Still doesn't work.

Then it's possible you do have another copy of the files in a Connect folder, but first of all, have you actually restarted?

Okay, small edit... The G8 SLIDER controls work, but when I try just applying a full Expression from my Expressions, that doesn't work. Okay, not bad but not great.

And thanks again for taking the time Matt.

This thread is so long I'm sure I've missed what I'm looking for but it seems this thread is for using the base expression of G8 with G8.1?

I want to get third party expression (ie ones bought from the store) to work. I cant see anything related to that here (or I'm missing the point somewhere)

  • PerttiAPerttiA Posts: 10,024

Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.

    The dummy/placeholder files are located in;

...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)

  • I don't have anything such as Male 8_1

    in Library/data/Daz 3D/Genesis 8/
    Male 8_1/Morphs/Daz 3D

  • Is it possible to use the HD expressions for G8 from Daz Originals on 8.1? I tend to use those a lot, and they just don't even appear for G8.1s.

Hey, just asking, does the G8 expressions still work on G8 chars, when I follow this tutorial? I am a bit unsure :<

  • Yes, Genesis 8 expressions work on Genessi 8 figures - it's only 8.1 that uses a different system, and blocks the Daz Genesis 8 Expressions.
