obj & mtl files

I recently purchased an item in an obj format. I was able to download the mtl file associated with it. However, when importing it into Carrara, it didn't appear to have the mtl file map onto it. Is there a seperate step I need to do to apply it? I was under the assumption that the mtl file wouold automatically apply itself. Any thoughts about this?

it varies a lot depending on the mtl file itself

or how the obj file references it

Carrara usually asks you to locate the textures if it reads the mtl and doesn't see their path but I do find with some it doesn't

if it's too many maps to manually load you may be able to edit the mtl in notepad though I suspect it is the obj file (which also can be edited in notepad) not looking for it

I'll take a look and see what I can find out. Didn't know about using notepad on them. Thanks, will let you know what I can find out.

Check the .Obj file for this as well (from the .0bj wiki page)

Vertex normal indices without texture coordinate indices

As texture coordinates are optional, one can define geometry without them, but one must put two slashes after the vertex index before putting the normal index.

    f v1//vn1 v2//vn2 v3//vn3 ...
