Is DAZ Studio really rendering when I'm doing something else?

...Because I`m starting to think it´s not.
I used to left it rendering and the render would be done while I was doing something else. but since I switched to a Mac, it feels like the render is on pause while I'm doing something else and resume activitiy when I go take a look.
Is this some kind of RAM optimization maybe? Or just my imagination?

Might be, might not be. I don't know how it works on a Mac, but in Windows, you can adjust the CPU priority for different processes. Higher priority processes get more of the CPU's cycles.
You may want to check Activity Monitor and make sure DAZ isn't set to utilize App Nap. This feature suspends certain programs when you switch to another program. I believe you can disable App Nap by right clicking on the DAZ app icon inside /Applications, selecting Info and unchecking the App Nap tick box.
Having always worked on a Mac and having done tons of renders with DS when I am working in up to 5 other programs at the same time, I can assure you it continues to render. The closer to the end it get, the finer the bits, the longer it takes. My renders invariably take 3-8 min to get 75% of the way there and then, depending on the complexity of the scene, number and types of light, alphas, etc. can take up to some hours for the rest.
Thanks! That might be the cause... I had to do the opposite and check "Disable App Nap" but might be because I'm on Yosemite.
Thanks for the tip! Will see if I notice the difference. :D
Yep, I'm also on Yosemite.
Greetings,
Thank you; I hadn't realized I had to explicitly 'prevent app nap' for DAZ Studio! That would have made me REALLY mad if it paused my render when other stuff was going on...
Yeah, it's a new OS X feature that really sucks for the software developers, but is probably good for most users, and can significantly lower the energy usage of a computer. (I put out a free program that lets folks snipe on eBay items. You can imagine just how horrible App Nap is for my program. I spent a lot of time putting together a plugin for my application that disables App Nap for it.)
