Set Compatibilty Base confusion

I have recently bought two tutorials and both of them state that when saving the item (ie. a piece of clothing) as a Figure/Prop Asset that you set the Compatibility Base to the figure it is for (ie. Genesis 2 Female) I was taught that you should set the item to the same as the default data that shows in the Scene tab when loaded. This is the 3rd box down in the middle, in the save.

This was taught to me when I was learning to add Metadata to my free items.

Surely it won't work in Smart Content if it set to the figure and not the clothing item.

Anyone know which is correct.

compatibility base is to the item.. prefered base is to the figure.

make sure you create the compatibility in the compatibilities area then assign your figure/prop to it

    does that make sense?

That's how I set mine. That is not how the two tutorials say to do it though.

    ok steps to doing it

load your figure/prop in the scene.
go to the scene tab and using the upper arrow with 3 lines by it choose edit/set default compatibility bases.
in the panel that pops click the ... (elipse)
right click on this panel and create new root
Name the product if you don't have a product name you could name it my props
then make sure its selected and hit accept

then go to content tab and use the same arrow with three lines on this pane
    choose content DB editor
    Select the prop/figure
under the compatibility tab on the bottom click the Not declared and change it to declared as
click the database and find the compatibility you set before
to set it compatible with a figure on that same panel of the content db editor
right click the name of your prop/figure
and find the compatibility base for the figure
once you've done that .. save

would it help if i did a tutorial on it?lol

I know how to do it.

What confused me is that the two tutorials I bought both state something different. They both state that you set the Default Compatibility Base to, for example Genesis 2 Female! This is basically wrong.
