Not all surface parameters copy over?

twitchewtwitchew Posts: 123

I am hoping that someone is willing to help me.
I am using the surfaces tab and really want to copy a surface from one figure to another.
I have used one of the shader cleaner scripts on the target figure to try and give myself a clean start.
However, when I paste the copied surface onto my target not all of the surface parameters come across.
Things like Fresnel and Velvet simply don't copy over, and parameters in the target (like lighting model) remain.
I have to be missing something obvious, but is there a way to copy a surface exactly from one figure to another?

You first have to change the shader on the target figure to the same one the donor figure has.. so if you're trying to paste a Uber Surface mat to it you'll need to select all the target's surfaces and the figure in teh scene tab and fo to shaders (or shader presets?)/omnifreaker/uber surface and apply the base uber surface shader.. then you can paste over your mats. >or< if you're copying from one of the same figure to another (G2 to G2, V4 to V4, etc) it's faster to just select your doner and save as a marterial preset somewher in your library and then apply the whole deal to your target, then it will change the shader for you.

(AoA sub surface has a base shader apply preset too, it's in shaders/AOA/etc.. somewhere in there, I have the two pinned to my UI so I don't have to go hunting for them)

    thank you so much.
I did the material export and import as you suggested and that did the trick very nicely. I really appreciate this. I have used the program but am really just starting to figure out how to get beyond purchased content.

You mentioned pinning something to the bar for handy access. As you can guess, I am starting to deal with library creep and have just learned that I can get things to the "scripts" menu with "Create Custom Action" but I am hoping there is a simpler method or "favorites" or something, because I could see scripts getting really cluttered.

once you have put something in that custom actions pull down you'll have to option of putting on a toolbar if you go to workspace-customise, it's under one of the pull downs on the left hand side, don't remember which one, either far left or one in from that.

most things won't have icons, and if they do they'll be too big. I have a special folder in my content I named icons that I put little pics in, I copy the thumbs for the items and resize them to 24x24 then they fit nice on the menus. You tell it what icon to use by right clicking on the custom action in the pop-up box, center image above.
