Ghost bones issue

Hi all, I have an existing skirt CR2 and I want to add ghost bones to the item. I'm having a problem when I try doing this....I get duplicate geometry. Here's my work flow in DS3.1:
From content library I load character figure
Front content library I load skirt CR2 and fit to character figure
I highlight skirt in scene selection
in Skeleton setup I choose 'copy from selected figure'
I right click on the hip bone and choose 'add child bone'
I add all the bones I want, fix their rotation and weld to parent hip
When I'm done I select 'paste to selected figure.
The new bones now show up but now I have two skirt geometries and duplicate material zones. Can anyone fix my workflow so this doesn't happen?

Don't use Figure Setup, if you switch to the Joint Editor tool and select the bone you want to be the parent of the new bones you should find a Create Child Bone(s) command in the right-click menu.
