Problems with tree render

I'm trying to render the tree from Christmas Past the Study and, while I can see it in the preview, when I render it there is next to nothing. The image below shows a plop on the left with no tree and the right is the preview. This is without any lights (using the default headlamp) and no added textures ... it's straight from the file. I also am not impressed with the way the presents look. Any ideas?
THX!!!
ps -- I hate surprises ... as in suddenly having my software updated without knowing it and having a deadline ... LOL!!!

Assuming you use DS, the first thing I would do if I were you would be to redownload the set as it was updated recently with DS support, along with the whole "The Study" product line (thanks Jen for updating my favorite older PC products! :))
As for the weird effect on the presents, it's caused by the reflection settings which are way too high.
No idea on why the tree looks almost transparent, but that might be due at least partly to the fact that you have a transparent background.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I did turn down the reflection on the presents and they're MUCH better ... and these are the updated versions (just checked my download manager to make sure). I also tried the tree with the regular background and it's still transparent.
I did look at the tree from the Christmas Carol add-on and it renders fine ... well at least the tree does.
Sorry I forgot to add this information --
I am using DAZ Studio 4.7 on a Mac running 10.9.5 with 24 GB memory and an AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics card with 1 GB memory
it looks to me like you are using the Poser materials.
The DS materials included in the new version shouldn't give that result.
Have you checked the Opacity settings in the surface tab for the tree? It looks like some kind of problem with either a transparency map or the opacity being set too low.
