Lock Surface?

how does one prevent changes to a surface? I don't see any way to lock a surface, only particular properties. And there isn't even a way to select multiple properties of a surface at once, as far as I can tell. I want to be able to load MATs onto a Genesis character I'm working on without changing the stuff I don't want changed. I know I can save a preset using just the parts I want preserved, then load it after loading a MAT, but that's a bit tedious.

    If you hold down the Ctrl key (Cmd on Mac) while clicking on the material preset, you can select which elements to apply.
