An appology to the Vendors

Who are releasing all the cute stuff for Belle and Brodie that I would actually buy.

I'm not buying.

Not because I don't think it is awesome work (it is) or because it's a theme/style I don't like (I do)

It's because I'm flat broke after two months of sales and various other issues that are putting a restraint on my spending power.

Please accept that we hobbyists can't always buy everything we want in that magical first sale salvo. And if any product released in this period "fails," Know that I would have given you one more sale if I could, even if that one sale wouldn't have made a difference.

Amen. It's really terrible timing on DAZ's part. I can only imagine that they're trying to preemptively grab sales that will otherwise go to the big Black Friday sales at the other content sites by not waiting to launch Belle in December, which is when a lot of us were budgeting for her. But launching two new figures at the end of a big sale, going into the Holiday shopping season, without any advanced warning is really...

Hopefully DAZ will keep the existing sale specials going through the first couple of days of December so that those who get paychecks at the end/first of the month can manage what they can manage.

No one expects you to buy everything. It is understandable that real life needs take priority. No need to apologize.

Sometimes, it sure seems like it.... (Not you, but there are a couple of vendors who make me feel that way.)

And because there are a lot of things being released right now that I like, I really just want the vendors behind those products to know that the market for them is larger than initial sales may indicate.

I thought Belle was going to be more toon-y, so something "safe" for me to wait on. But no. She's a more or less realistic teen, with a great realistic, non-sexed up wardrobe (suitable for winter, even!), which I wish I could support with my wallet, rather than letting my wish list grow by another 20+ items. And I wasn't expecting Brodie this month at all.

Yes. Unless they give us many presents, this will be tough. I am blessing myself for not spending much during the last two sales, because with almost no money spent, I became a proud owned of both kids.

Yuh. No individual person should ever feel obligated to buy, and I try to stress that on my blog as well.

A non-trivial percentage of my income, at least, is from graphics artists and other professionals. They're going to buy whether things are on sale or not because it's overhead for them, and they are utterly dispassionate in how they make their purchasing decisions. (They also want very different things from the forum, but we've all heard that discussion over and over by now, I think.) I think this is probably true for most of us who do this as our only job.

And then there are anomalies like myself who buy pretty much every shiny new thing they want and wishlist very little. I was absolutely blown away by the wonderful releases accompanying Belle. Not least of all because I've been hoping for more modest clothing for a long while, and these are just perfect for young teens and children alike.

I couldn't be happier if I was rolling around in a ball-pool full of Maltesers... well, maybe just a little happier.

    Well said!.

What really limits me was retirement - pension income really plays havoc with fun money - so, I have to be rather picky at times and really think on purchase, so as to maximize bang for the buck..

Yeah, I agree. I was IM with the girlfriend, and she showed major concern about this becoming another one of those unsupported characters if we didn't buy right away. Unfortunately, our monthly 3D budget has been spent already, so will probably have to wait till JAN, unless some extra work pops up before then.

I was most excited about this release because of you. LOL I knew you'd be over the moon. My items for them are ready to be released but likely will be held for a bit due to theme. Which will probably help a lot with sales.. I'm glad I didn't have anything for at release.

All in all, I have a pretty good idea of why things sell or don't sell. I would hope other PAs also take into account things like never ending sales.

I already knew not to release big products during the main sales but with how long they went on this year I didn't have a choice, this is my family's only source of income and I can't go 2 1/2 months just on my back catalog. As expected my small shader pack sold WAY more copies than my sleeveless dress or my incubus outfit.. so I really should have just made three shader packs instead and held the other stuff.. but again, both those bigger projects were working with several other people so I can't really say.. sorry.. y'all have to wait. (and releasing more Halloween themed things in December doesn't make much sense either)

I always feel a little bad when items like this are released, because as much as i want to support some vendors whose work i like, i never use teen or child figures in any renders or projects, so unless there are clothing or props i can use, i pretty much spend at other places.

I was actually kind of bummed with this release, didn't participate in the platinum party since i am not a member and now products and focus on a genre i have no use for. Oh well, more for Xmas shopping, LOL.

    signed.

The reason I feel so strongly about this is that usually, these bundles, two teen characters with actually decent items in their respective packages would be the first thing I buy. I would drop Aiko, or Lilith or whatever in a heartbeat for those. But I can't prioritize because I the money is spent already.

And frankly, the fact that DAZ released them at this particular point in time, once again without any hint or warning, whether it was intentional or not, just makes me sour.

If any DAZ representative at any point says something to the effect of "Teen characters don't sell, because, look, Belle and Brody didn't do too well!", I just might bite a piece out of my monitor. :D

But I guess this has a bright side. I'll just have to set 70$ from my usual budget aside every month, and if there happen to be no surprise awesome releases, maybe I can finally get some LoL skins. Or some video games. Or treat my friends to a round of Jaegermeister. Or something else I should do with my 3D budget anyway :D

It's only a shame that Daz doesn't allow you to gift products to others. Gift vouchers aren't quite the same thing. I know a few people who would really benefit from having Brodie and Belle in their runtimes, assuming they haven't already added them.

Agreed. It seams ridiculous to only count the first day or hour of sales to determine the popularity of something. People have budgets, bills, etc, and some things take time to get the word out. And as you point out, timing of just after a massive sale, people are spent. The funds I have left isn't mine to spend at this point, lol.

Yes some of the outfits do look really good in passing, tho I didn't really bother looking to closely, as I have other things in the 'Queue'.

I'm sure some of it was in a 'Pro' pack for some one (or a 'Bundle'), let me guess, that dose not count as a sale to daz?

Yes I'm guilty of being on a shader frenzy of late. :)
    (EDIT)
It's not just that it was a shader, there that good.

Yes, the entire outfit was done with your shaders. Except the buckles.

...this year's PC Anniversary was the first time I could take advantage of big sale in over a year and a half as I had been unemployed for so long. Yes, missed MM, missed last year's PC Anniversary, missed 2 PA Sales. Consequently, my wishlist has grown quite a bit. The few purchases I made (outside of the weekly/monthly freebies) were mostly through GCs received from challenges and gifts.

Even though things have began to look up, I'm still having to watch my nickles and dimes, and pretty much felt spent a bit more than I should have. Even so, I was finally able to get a good number of items I had been waiting for.

Not knowing anything about Belle, save for a lot of speculation over on the PC forum, was a disappointment as many here know I have been working on a story that involves teen characters. There was no mention, nor even a hint she would be a teen character or that she would have a male counterpart (Brodie) until they showed up in the store after the PC Sale ended. By that time I (and I'm sure many others) were pretty much tapped out. With Reality4 on the way in about a week (which I and othes have been waiting for since Reality3 for Poser was released), I have to keep some funds in reserve for the upgrade (which will cost about the same as either the Bell or Brodie base character - yeah, priorities).

And it looks like the Belle/Brodie sale page has already off been taken off the rotating marquee, although the buy 2 discount sale seems to still be active. And with the new store design, there's no way to see what's actually on sale on the store page if you don't already have the link saved, which would seem to be a major design flaw on DAZ's part. ( It's http://www.daz3d.com/belle-brodie-6 )

Wasn't Mei Lin up there on the marquee for like three weeks straight?

I have to agree. I'd be snapping up Belle and Brodie and everything for them if I had the money, the clothes are exactly my style and I've been looking for more younger characters for a long time.

I skipped over the Mei-Lin stuff so I was able to justify the Belle stuff.

I know EXACTLY what DaWaterRat is talking about! Her and I often PM about up-coming new Icons that we find on the wiki page. Then we find the male/youth content threads and then we get the "sexy sells" jingle. But yes, some PA's tell us that if we want something supported, we should obligate ourselves to buying as much of it as we can, even if we don't necessarily like what's being put out there. I won't name names or link threads, but these things have in fact been said to us before, and recently...

Anyway, truth be told, even though I bought Brodie and his bundle, I'm holding off for a while until I get Belle. I'm still curious as to why they're Stylized, which is what threw me off from buying them on day 1, but I do and will always buy every Pro Bundle the comes out, Belle included. :)
