Finding NEW Renderosity runtime files - UGGGGH!!!
I just bought a few things from Rendo and installed them to this location path:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
Once they're installed, and I go in, I CANNOT find anything? I have installed alot to that path and it's a roll of the dice if I can find them. THIS is the one thing that I HATE about the new Daz Studio... the older versions NEVER gave me these time consuming hunts for newly installed. It's making me crazy.
Now, I'm buying an entirely new external HD to install all my new stuff to, so I can have it in a location that is like the old runtime way. Because this new filing system in Daz studio is pure MADNESS for regular runtime items.
Anyone know of a way to find it outside of having to do a totally separate runtime location?

Pretty sure you can not blame DAZ for how rendo requires files to be set up. If the product is not really new new then look for a content folder as they required those well after they should have been phased out.
Have you tried actually opening up the .zip file and looking at the folder structure? If I can't locate something this is usually the first step for me.
Rendo isn't necessarily to blame for folder structure either. With Poser, the file folders HAVE to be set up a specific way, because of how the program works. With DS, there's more freedom, like having the Material presets for a product in the same folder as the item itself. The only real restrictions I've ever noticed involve the data folder and the Runtime folder - in that things like geometry files, morph files, and the like are stored in the data directory, while textures are kept in the Runtime\Textures directory.
That used to be true, but hasn't been for... years now. But unlike those who exclusively make products for DS, Poser vendors seem to prefer to keep *some* backwards compatibility -- even to the point of annoying people who actually *have* upgraded their software in the last five or six years. ;)
As for finding where an installed zip's folders went, it's already been said: Just look at the structure of the zip itself. Easy.
The stuff I've bought from Renderosity all has it's Runtime folder at the top level in the zip file. If you install into My DAZ 3D Library it should merge with the Daz Studio Runtime and you should be able to find it by going to Poser Formats in the Content Library and selecting My DAZ 3D Library.
If you don't know where to find it in the Poser subdirectories then you can look in the zip file or in the readme file. Everything starts with Runtime\libraries so ignore that. The next directory is the Poser content type, mostly the same but the directory called Character is called Figures in the Studio Content Library. After that the subdirectories are the exactly what you see in the Content Library.
It's not a DAZ Studio issue, the file structure of the zip file determines where the files are placed when unzipped.
If a product is listed as useable in P7 or P6, it requires the legacy runtime file structure. In all honesty, Rendo has not changed their file structure. The zips for new products are set up the same as products I purchased ten years ago.
Were the products designed solely for use in DS4 or higher?
Check the zip file to see if there's a top-level folder included in the hierarchy.
Rendo vendors tend to package their DS files inside a "My Library" folder, for example, as it used to be DS4 default content folder.
That's why I usually extract Rendo zip files to a temp directory and then move the files manually into my content directories.
Oh and of course most content bought at Rendo won't have metadata so they won't appear in smart content.
I'm from the old school - I have been doing this since 2005 - and everything that has been said, I know. The old Daz Studio structure - I ALWAYS found my files with no problem - install - look for the name of file - BAM - there it is. No such happenings now. Sooooo - I'll just do what I thought was best... give it a side and separate set up and find the files on a special HD just for them.
Thanks all...
You don't need a separate set up. You just need to remember some basics. When DAZ changed from installers to zips and created the DIM, they added the content as the top folder. As a long time Poser and user of early versions of DS, you are used to Runtime being the top folder.
You can unzip your Rendo zips to the DS content directory, you just have to tell the unzip app to unzip the files inside the content folder rather than the MyLibrary folder.
Most products you purchase outside the DAZ store won't be smart content as they don't generally have metadata that works inside DS. Since I don't generally buy DS only content (any I do buy I buy here at DAZ), I may be wrong on this point.
You will need to use the content tab and have both the DS and Poser folders mapped to content directory database.
Okay, I'll give that a try. Only thing is, I've already installed and I hate having the same thing in different places. But I'll remember that to add the content folder now. Cheers...
Applied what you said... and BAM - found everything!!! Thank you so much, THAT is what i needed to read. It's all there and found - Phew, you saved me some work!
