Ambient confusion

I'm confused about how the Ambient channel in the DAZ Studio Default shader is supposed to work. If I have:

Ambient Color bright red, 255 0 0
Ambient strength 100%
Diffuse Color black, 0 0 0
Diffuse Strength 100%
Specular Strength 0%
Opacity Strength 100%

How is that supposed to render in DAZ Studio 3Delight? I thought it would be red, but it renders black. Please help me understand how to use the Ambient channel.

I goofed up and posted in the wrong forum again. Please move to the Commons. Thanks.

    DAZ Studio Discussion is better.

To answer the question, it should be black. The ambient is, as the name implies, faking the effect of ambient lighting - if the object is pure black (diffuse colour) then no amount of lighting is going to make it red.

Thank you for moving the thread and for the explanation. I think I understand it better now.
