Smart Content tab is empty in Carrara Pro 8.5 and Install Manager "closes" during process.

I have several issues that may be related (or maybe not).

1) I installed Carrara Pro 8.5 on a new PC and used Install Manager to load my content. My Smart Content tab is empty even though the content was present on my previous PC.

2) I just put several free items in my cart and let IM download and install them. I can't find the items in my Content tab and IM doesn't want to open all of the time.

3) What is a typical file structure for where and how content files should be stored? I seem to have several inconsistent approaches in place. I'm thinking I should redo the way my content files are organized in their Runtime and then reload the Runtime but what is the correct structure?
