3D Head From Photo?

Hi all,

I haven't researched this issue for a few years, so I thought I'd check in and see where things stand.

What are the current options for making a 3D head from a photo?

I'm on a Mac.  Normally I use Poser, but I would fire up DAZ if doing so would solve this challenge.  I'm handy in 2D, but my 3D skills are pretty basic.  I'd be willing to pay $100 or so.

I recently inherited a Windows machine, but I know pretty close to nothing about Windows, so I've never fired the machine up even once.

Thanks for any comments!

You basically have 3 options, but not sure on the Mac compatibility since I never use Macs.

Thank you very much for your useful info.   I wasn't aware of the Face Transfer feature, so thanks for sharing that.  Hopefully a discussion might follow comparing these different options.   If such threads already exist, links are welcome and appreciated.

I'm on to learn more about FaceTransfer!

Whoa! Don't buy that!  "Only available for PC - Windows 64-bit."

The only face changes I have tried so far are things like re-shaping the nose and mouth, and adjusting the jaw line etc. in Genesis 2, in the "Shaping" pane.

Btw, typing of faces in general, what's this? "Visemes". Not found in Webster's!  (https://www.m-w.com)

Visemes - whatever the official defn is, I don't know however what they are, are morphs to shape the mouth as though uttering whatever letter of the alphabet is assigned with them.

While they can certainly be used as aids for stills, they are used when animating the figures. While the various speaking plugins may animate the figures as though talking using various scripts, making use of the timeline, one can add in visemes to improve the speech actions.

Oh yeah.  I guess have seen... similar things...

Some animal models in the Daz Store (like the Silverkey Bat) have something like this IIRC.

Is this related to "Mimic" in any way I wonder?

I think so. Not sure if Mimic still works with D/S though. There are some more uptodate products in the store that either use visemes and/or even come with more visemes!
