What software do people use to make video tutorials?

Inspired by cripeman and sci fi funk and numerous other great tutorials, if I wanted to start making short tutorials with screen capture to demonstrate my ineptitude with Carrara, what software would I use to do that?

    If you want to do a search while you wait for replies, I believe it's called "screencasting". And I recall CamStudio is a big name and free application. Other than that I'm clueless.

    well Cam studio which I use tends to freeze up stuff a bit so I tried the Fraps demo and that seems very good but have not needed it so not bought.
    If I was going to do lots of screen capture I would seriously consider it.

    I use SnagIt (v.12). It will capture screens online or desktop, in software packages and can capture videos on YouTube, on screen TV and etc.

    I also have Camtasia Studio, which is Techsmith's video capture and editing software.

    Of the two,Snagit is the least expensive and I'll use it 99% of the time over Camtasia Studio, because it is quick and easy with quality results.

    The Express version is free, and works really well if you don't need to add text or modify the video or audio.The Standard version gives you annotation functions and additional video export options. Professional adds audio and video track editing.

    An additional benefit is that the capture driver (all versions) can grab high quality streaming video that is not otherwise downloadable.

    Corel had a great Paint/Video bundle when I went to buy PaintShopPro. Screen Capture recording caught my eye and decided to grab the bundle. The video end of the bundle is Video Studio Pro, and it does have a fine video capture. I was using Cam Studio before, which is nice, too. I haven't used the rest of the software yet, but it looks pretty capable. Right now I'm contemplating upgrading to the brand new X7, which has now gone 64 bit.

    Screenium is one I've used on the Mac with decent results.

    I use Corel Videostudio , I use it for compositing as well as the screen recording .

    Thanks for all the suggestions! I now have a host of software to choose from, now just got to learn enough about Carrara so that I'll have something to impart that doesn't sound foolish in a tutorial... :)

    I mostly use fraps but also have another good software, have to check the name of it later

    Hey Jon. I use Snapz Pro (I'm on a Mac) it's main point is it keeps file sizes REALLY small. I just posted an 11 minute vid full res....127 meg.

    When they updated the the operating system they removed the ability to record sound from the computer. You can still record from the mike...which is probably what you want anyway.
