I got it too, but for me it's not working at all. The processing window short pops open, but before the bar even moves the software just crashes.
I've tested several video files and got everytime the same issue. Before I could start the software a 1st time it downloaded some assets, what took forever.
So since it not useable for me at all I'm asking for a refund.

happened with mine until I encoded them through Handbrake https://handbrake.fr/  it's worth a shotenlightened

Which settings did you use  to encode it? I used XMedia Recode. Combinations of: MP4 / 850x1080 / 1080x1920 / 30 FPS / 60 FPS... None of these worked for me.  :(

I just used whatever it defaults to and don't think my video was HD, my iPad quite old, I don't think it likes big files

and I cannot get it to work on my other computer even after it eventually did download the extra files so there might be codecs needed.

Pity the creator not active on the forum to give suggestions.

There are a lot "No frames with sufficent quality found" errors too! Eventhough it's a very sharp HD cam.
I asked for a refund now, but told DAZ to get me a few days to try to fix the issues, but I guess there's no chance. My other software (3D, Recording, Video edit...) is running flawless.
I wish there'd be a decent documentation. The internal help lefts more questions than it'll help.

I'm repeating a previous post of mine here: Try converting the video to a different format or different codec and try again. I had this error and the exact same video in a different format worked fine.

Interesting,...how useful is this for expressions for stills?

Would have been great if there was something like this for photo's.

You might try this, I've not tried it but I might because I think it would work (but I don't actually know that yet):

Take the photo you want to use, clip it to be a headshot size, and then make about 60 seconds of 24 frames per second, so about 1440, copies of the picture you want to try and create a pose of the expression in. Then use a image series to animation program (eg Blender but there are others) to create a pseudo animation.

I've not tried it but it might work, it seems like technically it should, if the program was coded robustly, but if it doesn't work get a second picture of the same person with a different, hopefully neutral expression, and use that picture for about 5 seconds of video at the front (5 x 24 = 120 frames) and 5 seconds at the end of the same opening expression (5 x 24 = 120 frames) and see if that gets it to work.

The developers could maybe add an option to read an individual image and extract an expression from that image? There is not such an option there now though so you can try faking it if there is a special picture you want to use to get the expression from it.

Seems like an option, but I don't see myself using it that much if I have to go through all that trouble.

  • I was getting this same error on every video until I recorded one against a blank wall. Before that I was standing in the middle of a well lit room that had sone furniture behind me. After I started filming against a plain BG, it stopped giving the "insufficient frames" errors and analyzed the videos fine.

Can somebody (where it's working) please post which "codec, file format & size" they used?
I've tested several combinations now and none did work for me.

Edit: I finally gave up and asked for a refund. I couldn't get it running after 5h+ of tests.

codecs are annoying and between my two computers some work or don't work entirely differently.

I never have solved issues in some programs

(iClone6 plays all mov files upsidedown and won't play mp4 on my Win7 for example using the K-lite one they recommended)

and simply cannot use some on one or the other, free codec packs are notoriously packed with Malware too.

I know this is little help, I too am having your issues on my Win7 PC but the Win10 one finally works with the right video (same one doesn't on Win7).

so many other glitches too, the DAZ strandbased hair vanishes  a hundred or more frames in in animations for me too for exmple both in iray and Filament. cheeky

    both computers

nobody else AFAIK has that issue.

    Have you tried 24 FPS?

I finally got PoseRecorder to work by using the technique Wolf mentioned above, by just dragging the .Duf from the file it was saved in onto a G8 character in DS. I really like the way in picks up the head movements from the video, but the eys and eyebrows can get kinda squirmy. I use a video of someone singing into the camera and noticed that the mouth movements  are good at times and non existant at other times. There is a bit of delay in the mouth opening then suddenly speeds up and captures all the subtle movements of the lips and jaw. The video I used had the person facing directly into the camera the whole time. Are the any tweaks to make the mouth movements more accurate yet? How long does anybody think it will be before updates start happening?

You could see if fiddling with the interpolation curve for the mouth in the timeline does make things better. And how should we know? This is the first product from a new PA.

  • kwanniekwannie Posts: 865

Yep, fiddiling is always an option, but if there are settings in the program that improve output that allows us to avoid doing things manually, that is what I am wondering. I'm aware that nobody knows what PA is actually going to do that is why I posed the question in a hypothetical manner "How long does anybody think it will be before updates start happening?" No harm, no foul we will all wait and see.

I mostly see it as a useful alternative to Mimic Live which I never liked, the 32bit still has the lipsync I use more.

The fact any face-shot video not just mine can potentially be used especially politicians, actors etc is rather interesting though subject to copyright.

There is public domain footage out there too and I guess virtual faces could also be used, something I want to test sometime, thinking game footage or cartoons.

Yeah Wendy I really thik this has amazing potential since it does eye movement and expressions. The biggest problem is that if the person moves their head around alot in the video capturing the mouth movements seems to suffer a bit. I downloaded 3 different videos of women singing the song "At Last" and the results in some places through the videos are amazing. Butthen in some places the the mouth simply freezes. I assume that happens when the mouth is not facing square with the camera. I know that After Effects has a tool that allows one to center the face on the camera, it would be great if this program had that ability.

Well based on all the chatter the PoseRecorder tool appears to be a much better investment then AniHead . I bought that thing a long time ago thinking it was heading in the right directions but there were no updates that i am aware of. Dont want to make the same mistake so hapil;y watching to see what you all can do with it.

BTW is it my understanding that i can also use this to track shoulder/neck movement as well. The thing about most of these is that your characters look a bit stiff. So if it can perform some basic ambient movement capturem then there is a value.

Can someone check if you can perform a shoulder shrug or head twist to see what it does or is it more for lip syncing?

I don't return products/assets so i'd rather do the research before purchasing them..

  • kwanniekwannie Posts: 865

Tugpsx it does do the head twists very well but does not do the shoulders. You could easily do shoulder shrugs with a mocap setup such as Brekel or IPI. There is also something that is still being developed called "Pose Estimation" that allows you to extract body motions from video much like PoseRecorder, but last I heard it is still very glitchy.

well I have two issues it cannot cope well with

    1. my Webcam apparently records at 15FPS, my attempt to remedy it ended up speeding my video up 2X and I didn't realise until the sound didn't match in post.
    2. half my front teeth are missing on top and it destroys that side of the mouth

it gave me a really silly video at least which might go viral laugh

the one on your right uses DAZ mimic lipsync and the one in the middle has both

Update, my webcam does an abysmal 7fps in fact

I will have to go back to the iPad

@WendyLuvsCatz Thanks for sharing your projects. Looks like there are a lot of cool options to play with. One of these days I may grab this addon. I have a few others that work but have qwirks so waiting to see how this one turns out.

Getting the below error when i try to launch the application.

if you cannot solve it with your coding experience it is likely FUBAR cheeky

for me with no knowledge programs are totally hit or miss, if it doesn't work I just have to return them and get my money back.

good thing DAZ at least has that option

I did get it to eventually work on my Win7 as well as my Win10 but I am poking around in the dark with a stick and honestly couldn't tell you anything

I hate that it won't take a single image like png or jpg. Which makes no sense so you can tell it to use a single frame. I've found I have to take an image turn it into a 1 frame video and then it will take it. Dumb. Then the controls are whacked and the results are less than impressive.

I'm going to try the face one on blender that's like 7 years old. That actually has full face rigging.

It needs a video to create a facial lipsync/animation. One single PNG won't create an animation.

    It is an ANIMATION PRODUCT

apparently not designed  for making still images.

Admittedly the name "pose recorder"  could be misleading
to those who only do still posing.
I would have named it "pantomime"  or "marionette"

Having used the product (with mixed results)
I think, with some major finement, it has potential to be the first camera based facial mocap option that does not require the additional purchase of a luxury consumer product from Apple

You should request a refund if you are within your 30 day windowfrown

No, it is NOT dumb. It is simply the result of the creator using pre-existing libraries to access the video data. These libraries are made to handle videos, not images. To handle single images the creator of the program would have to add image handling separately - to a program that is designed to work with animations.

So did a few experiments and found that the application is a bit unstable.

Tested on Windows 11 Desktop and the application launched. I tested with a few video files and the app would crash during processing leaving only the thumbnail file.

Did a similar test on another Windows 11 Laptop and it was able to complete the conversion and save a duf file. The results were not great so will test with their provided video to see if there is something i am doing incorrectly.

Do you see that checkbox next to Frame Range? It says "single" meaning single frame. If it was ONLY intended for full animation clips why would the programmer have then added that? And if you have a feature to use just a single frame, then there is no good reason to not then also allow for a still image.

I also know the difference between supporting edge cases within the limit of an existing design or system and implementing aforementioned edge case as core feature.

FWIW, I've recently read that it requires an RTX video card to function. I've got a GTX now. When I get some cash for an RTX I'm going to try it out. It's the only one around that doesn't require an iPhone.
