How do you correct DIM when you moved a content folder outside of DIM

Tripod2goTripod2go Posts: 10

I did it ... Tried the short cut moving a folder to another disk without uninstalling the objects. How do I get it back in sync?
Can I unstall even tho it tells warns me the install folder does not exist then reinstall to the new location?
As usually some short cuts are not short!

Update the metadata in DAZ?-- I have already mapped the folder from the new location in content library.

Or do I need to move it back to the original location then uninstall / re-install?

Two approaches to fixing the location in DIM:

    1) Uninstall from the old location (DIM doesn't care if the files aren't there anymore, reinstall with DIM, and then go to Settings > Installation, right-click on the new location, and choose "Fix Installed File Registry". That should also fix the metadata in DAZ Studio, but if you end up with two copies then "Scan Known Directories for Content" works best for removing the obsolete items. If you have your own custom categories/tags/metadata and didn't export user data before moving the content folder, that info will be lost (in that case, move the content folder back, export user data, then move the content folder).

    2) If you don't have the downloaded zips and don't want to redownload them, go to the ManifestFiles folder (default location is C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFiles) and edit the .dsx files. There will be a line that reads:

you'll want to change that path to the new location, then DIM will believe that's where it originally installed them. (Obviously you'll want a good multi-text-file editor that can do it all automatically, like Notepad++).

Sorry for being late in reply but not feeling well last couple of days.

After refreshing myself on the problem I realized I failed to provide two critical pieces of info. 1) I had moved AND RENAMED the dim install folder. ie daz-dim-content became daz-dim-space on another drive. 2) I'm on a MAC.

Where is the settings>intallation ...on the MAC. I could just be blind today. I can get to a window called settings but don't see the 'FIX..'. With this info does your options still apply? Can it be corrected via the "fix installation file registry"?

I'm thinking the best option now is Restore from backup the original folder, daz-dim-content, add the path back to to DIM then uninstall reinstall some time in the future.

Thank you for your speedy replys and explanations.

In DIM, click the gear icon in the upper right to get to Settings, then go to the Installation tab.
