i see how to drape hair, what about cloth? physics somehow? terminology to search for?

is it in the modifiers?

thanks :)
iz a big piece of the carrara puzzle, to start 2015 year of carrara, make or brake

can it do the shrink wrap thing, growing the figure to shape the cloth mesh?

searching 'softbody' 'soft body' - not found.
what's the carrara terminology for dynamic cloth?

There is no Dynamic clothes yet in Carrara but a Soft Body physic engine.
It is in the Modifiers/Physic and you can apply it to a vertex object (try a vertex plane first to see what he can do).
In your scene/physic tab, look if your physic engine is on "Bullet".

    thanks.

will that make it follow the figure walking?

i could do the initial draping in poser if need be.

or i'll avoid using long skirts and trenchcoats

Oh, it might be break, so brake!

Lots of difficulties with dynamic cloth in Carrara, although Stringtheory9 has made amazing strides in a thread with "proof of concept" in the title. It is easy to have a flag attached to a flag pole. Draping cloth on a figure with complex movement has been more problematic.

In any case, for cloth, there are three places to pay attention to.
    1) for the object, under the modifiers tab, choose physics/softbody (you can also attach vertexes to anther object like a flag pole)
    2) for the object, under the effects tab, refine the physical properties to taste
    3) In the scene tab, there are additional general settings (you can even change gravity if you want to be on the moon). Also, it should be Bullet Physics by default.

You will also want to pay attention to how objects compare to each other. You can check which objects collide and which are exempt, what their relative densities are, etc.

To start the calculations, click the sparkly looking thing in the upper left.

Here is an example of using Poser cloth in combination with Carrara.

There is also a plugin that will store all the Poser cloth draping frames as morphs if you want to do an animation with draped cloth in Carrara. I bet Dudu knows which plugin I am talking about. I think it is Fenric, but not sure.

Dynamic cloth is not officially in Carrara yet, but Stringtheory's proof of concept thread shows that it may in fact be very possible to do. Like Diomede says, doing things like letting a tablecloth fall and drape over a table or a flag flapping in the wind is very easy (and quick) to do with the softbody bullet physics, and even draping clothes on a static Daz figure for realistic cloth is very doable - check out Joemamma's thread on quick n easy dynamic cloth:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/51480/

But when doing cloth deformation in an animated character such as V4/M4/Genesis, it's very easy for the simulation to go nuts and for the cloth to shred or go flying off into space, so it's not quite there yet for animation purposes, though I do think Stringtheory's brilliant solution will work, and experimentation continues for those of us who are interested :)

Edit: I didn't say that very well, so...

    - Single frame render on a static figure with cloth = quick and easy

    - Animation of cloth on a moving V4 = very difficult, and the sim will probably shred or 'splode your cloth.

thanks. :shut: only mildly intimidating. lol

i've seen some specatular essplosions in the poser cloth room.

i think i saw the plugin on the carrara cafe.

so it can do a table cloth drape? kewl.

C7 manual doesn't have this stuff.

Bullet wasn't added til Carrara 8, so no manual and we have been left to our own devices to figure this stuff out and conquer or spectacularly fail all on our own (thank goodness for the brilliance of other forum members, or I would have been left hopelessly lost)

doh i can make the left toolbar wider?

i couldn't see how to activate the brush tool. - is under an edit button. :)

Yeah, what happened to that dude? He's in Scotland as I recall. Anyone know what's going on with him?

Not really. He popped in a few months ago for a couple weeks, but then stopped. I can't say for sure, but I suspect an illness of some sort. I hope not.
