Installing 3rd Party content into Daz on a Mac - How?
I know this has to be something that has been discussed over and again, but my searches didn't pull up any results. So I have to ask.
This is both for characters and all that as well as Plug-Ins:
1) Does DAZ Install Manager work with anything other than feeds from the DAZ marketplace? Is there a utility for doing this automatically? Again, could I put the 3rd party zip tiles into DIM and it work with that content?
2) How do I install content during unzipping? There seems to be tutorials about how to do it on a PC as you unzip the files because you can tell the files where to unzip to and it won't erase previous content. One tutorial indicated Macs would overwrite the folders.
3) Is Manual Installation the way to go?
So the way I figure it is that if I unzip the files, which seem to come in named folders that correspond to the existing folders that DAZ looks at for content, if I put the files I unzip into the corresponding folders, is that all that I need to do and they should work? I tried it early on and wasn't sure it was working because I had so much content already and was afraid I would screw things up putting files needlessly where they might not belong. So I thought I had better ask before I really mess things up.
Is there a utility for doing this automatically? Again, could I put the 3rd party zip tiles into DIM and it work with that content?
Thanks.

I do it manually, myself. I have a separate Runtime for third party [non-DIM installed] content just so I know that any messed up manually installed content is not mixed in with my DIM installed content. Not sure if there is any point in doing that, but I just do it.
Being an old-school Unix person, I manually install on command line, with a script like
tar cf - * | (cd $MYLIBRARY/Runtime; tar xvf -)
after scouting just how the particular product is packaged.
I use Macmerger for Mac to install 3rd party content. It's as simple as renaming the top level folder to match your main library folder name. Then drag source and target to app interface. Click merge and ready to render!
Thanks folks!
I'll be exploring these ways. Code of any kind including Command lines (Terminal?) are a little beyond me yet, but I can usually manage to run a utility. Crossing fingers that it's as easy as it sounds if you know what you're doing. Part of the problem is I'm trying to get up to speed really fast and so I don't have the luxury of growing into it as the technology develops. Very exciting though. I look at this universe of props and models and I want to use them because they are so amazing.
