Hi,
I bought Carrara recently and I'm still trying o get to grips with it, but my biggest bugbear at the moment is loading daz scenes, they take forever and often don't work. I loaded a scene with genesis, and outfit and a basic terrain and it took over ten minutes to load in. Is this normal? Surely not.

    Newbies are always welcome :)

I don't build scenes in Studio and import into Carrara, I build everything in Carrara, so I'm not the best to answer your question, hopefully someone who does it that way will be by to answer better than I can.

I can attest that the first instance of Genesis I open in Carrara takes a little time to load, then all other Genesis instances I load don't take very long, possibly that's what's contributing. I rarely user Genesis or Genesis2 though, so again I'm not the best to answer this.

    Nevertheless, welcome!

that's helpful nonetheless. how many instances of a figure can carrara manage? I often do very busy scenes with a lot of individual characters.

Oh far more than any other app that handles Poser/Studio characters, and then on top of that Carrara has instancing which means you can build a huge host. I think you'll be very happy on that score, Carrara handles huge scenes with lots of content very well.

Oh, and regarding multiple instances such as crowds, forests, city buildings, piles of rocks, stars swirling in a galaxy, etc., here is a thread dedicated to replicators.

Pretty detailed if you are truly just starting out, but worth skimming through just to get a feel for the amazing level of control that you will have to make armies march up mountain roads and similar applications.

There are a fair number of features I like the sound of, but I'm finding getting started tough. That should change with a little fiddling about.

Then, diomede found and catalogued all of our monthly Carrara challenge WIP (Work In Progress) threads and entry threads. Check them out when you get a chance. They're a great learning tool, can provide some inspiration, allows you to see some of the things Carrara can do, and introduce you to some of the friendly and fabulous artists that hang out here.
