Could someone explain Carrara Cafe to me please?

I realize it's somewhat of an alternate site for discussing Carrara and related issues. But it seems every time I look there the latest forum posts or weeks or months old. Is it still active? And what is the purpose, since this site already exists?

If it's a place for people who aren't happy with this site for whatever reason (personalities, whatever) I totally understand. Though it sounds (I think Evil posted something a while back about it) like some people have left there ALSO because of personality issues.

Too bad everything can't stay consolidated in one forum, but I guess if people want something different then that's fine.

    I think of Rendo as the place to post for people who don't like to constraints of the (imo) over-moderated daz forums.

    Carrara café doesn't really function as a forum at all. It has a forum there, sure, but not used in the conventional sense. I think of Carrara café more as a library of carrara related stuff. Articles, C3DE, Tutorials. It feels more 'permanent' then a forum and more easily searchable by subject matter too, but it's not a conversation question/answer type place, more like a reference library. Also bearing in mind that Daz has overturned the applecart here and years and years of forum posts are not easily findable, it's nice to have a place where it feels like there's some stability and permanence to the content, and the café serves that function (imo).

    Or at least that's the way I've always viewed it, maybe I've got it all wrong though.

    Interesting...while researching another thread I found this input from Holly on why Carrara Cafe exists...I hadn't seen this before:

    "....the whole reason it exists is because of the ridiculous forum rules here that are designed to protect D|S from competition, including its own siblings like Carrara."

    Seems like she thought that DAZ viewed Carrara as competition to D|S and that's one reason why they don't like it? Wow. This is like a soap opera or something... :) :)

    The CarraraCafe is 100% Carrara site, where the frontpage has Carrara news, the tutorial page has only Carrara tutorials, the downloads are only for Carrara and the Forum is only about Carrara...

    While this forum is more popular, at CarraraCafe the Forum is uncensored.

    I try to help out a little here and there at CarraraCafe and have never heard or seen any problems, just the usual time limits, like any unpaid hobby.

    Registration DOES NOT work nor does the work around !!!

    It needs to be fixed.
