Importing Vertex Weight Mappings

I'm trying to import a long, many segmented three-chain prop into DAZ. It has about 20 parts and works properly in my render. All the joints work and the associated weight mappings.

I'm trying to import it via FBX and DAE with no luck. Am I sh*t outta luck or am I missing something obvious? Not seeing where I can set any import options, either.

Thanks

    Import from where?

From an FBX file or DAE file? I've successfully moved weight mappings over from one program to another using DAE so surprised it's not found in DAZ (not that I should complain since DAZ is a free product, mind you). As for FBX, I know it can handle weight mappings, but I can't stand using it.

Also, why does the weight map brush suddenly disappear and refuse to come back. I've switched tools, switched modes, switched maps and the basic mouse cursor remains. I have to restart the program entirely to get node weight brush back.

I meant where does the weight-mapped figure that you are tying to import come from?

    Either Blender or Cheetah3D.

I've sort of given up on importing weight maps and been trying to use the weight mapping system in DAZ. The weight brush likes to go away. I played with a parameter dial to move the to-be-rigged item around a bit and the brush never returns. Have to restart the program over and over again.

    On Mac OS X.10.

The import of rigged formats (.dae and .fbx) was mainly, as I recall, for use with Carrara. It certainly isn't a dependable way to bring in rigged figures.

Which version of DS is this? There have been cases where the weight map brush would vanish and need a restart (you can of course save your work so far), but I thought it had been addressed in 4.7.0.12 (the current build).

Yeah, that's the version I'm using and that's the trick I've been doing. I'd "pre-moved" the parts once I got the XYZ set, then paint to get the maps to do what they're supposed to. The brush doesn't seem to disappear if I avoid the dials in the Parameter tab by the looks of it.
