Genisis and M4/V4 vs Genesis 2

It seems there is a lot of content and sales for the older figures. I feel like I should be spending my money on the newer Genesis 2 stuff.

Is my thinking flawed?

    Yes, no, maybe ... ;)
I use the G2 figures a lot, but still pull out Genesis or V4 and M4 from time to time. Plus there's auto-fit and the smoothing/collision mechanism for TriAx figures, and the ability (with product purchase) of using Gen4 textures and clothing on Genesis and G2[M|F] with some good results ... so it pretty much comes down to personal choice in what you like!

It's not your thinking that's flawed, it's a general opinion that the newest things are the best.

Generation 4 is probably the most widely supported. And you can use its assets on Genesis and Gen2F/Gen2M. Genesis is even more versatile. Firstly, morphs are interchangeable. Secondly, both Generation 4 and 6 content works on Genesis. To me, Genesis is the best figure for creatures.

If you necessarily need Generation 6 stuff, the sale covers some when a product has two versions.

Well, in some ways the newer figures are best...you can read about technological advancements here: http://www.daz3d.com/technology But it's certainly true that many people still happily use Genesis or V4 and M4 as their figures of choice, with outstanding results. (edited to add: and I think cecilia is correct in saying that they have their advantages, too)

What content can be used across generations is a more complicated issue, too. I have a thread on the topic that may be useful: DAZ 3D Human Figures - A History
