Fit? Parent? Apply? Default load?

When I drag an item like hair or conforming clothing from a content tab onto an actor on the stage, and hold it there, a menu pops up. I don’t quite grok the nuances of the different options. Please tell me if I’m getting this right.

1. Is applying essentially = fitting + parenting?

2. For what purposes would it be better to fit without parenting?

3. What does default load mean in that menu? Does that differ for different items?

    In simplest terms:

fit to - makes the item conform the the current figure, so putting a V4 hair on a G2 figure you would fit to.

Parenting - think of this as glue. When you parent one item to another you are sticking it together so both items move at once when you are rearranging your scene. Example: you've put a crystal ball in your girls hand. Parenting it to her hand means if you move her arm around it will follow the hand where-ever you repose it to.

    hopefully that helps a bit.

Thanks, Vhardamis. That confirms what I thought those terms meant.

What about “applying” an item? It seems to combine both fitting and parenting … is that all that means, or is there more to it?

It can also mean applying a texture for a material preset.
