Hi, I do not touch about weight map conversion of V4 or M4 , but I can tell about "symmetly" scale option.
it is known bug and reported alredy. Then If you use symmetly for hidden sclae parameter, it can not work still.

but today I checked it for gen3female (because we may use manytimes for face rig scale to change expression,)
then I feel, If turn hidden scale (each X,Y,Z) as no-hidden, by parameter setting, it seems work.

(not recommend for all users, because most of un-visible parameter are not hoped to tocuh it by user,,
it may cause another problem .
eg somenode will not be coloered scale weight ,,I sometimes find these non scale weight product actually
or limit often use for JCM or MCM to work correctly)

And I test with triax figure too, (gen2female)
    yes,, it work.
When we need to use symmetly for each axis scale of node, we may need to set them "non-hidden" parameter
    with parameter setting.

it is same, when We use "zero figure" or "zero poze" etc,,
they only work about "non hidden parameter" not work about "set as hidden parameter"

eg,, if you use " show hidden parameter" now you can see hidden parameters
then you can tweak some hidden x y z scale of fingers to adjust size, what you want.

then poze many. now you feel to turn figure as default poze. but not remember which scale you tweaked.

If you just use zero figure , or select all nodes and zero poze for selected node,,
if the parameter set as "hidden" still, these parameter not return to zero.

I know some user say, it is reasonable. but I never feel so. "zero" means return to value zero.
why it depend on, hidden or un-hidden, though we can check it in parameter.

and usually x y z scale should not set as hidden. (daz just hope so, not show un-expected weight influence)
