Broken surface in 3delight - thoughts?

I've been experimenting with the cartoon rendering mode in 3delight, and a certain item (the toga from Sickleyield's SY dforce Roman Clothing Pack) comes out looking very strange indeed. A part of it is completely black, like a dark, very strong shadow or a missing texture or something. I don't think it's the shading per se, because it doesn't look like any sort of shadow falls there and in regular 3delight it renders just fine anyway. Obviously the shaders in the base item were optimized for Iray, but I did try an assortment of different alternatives including iray cloth shaders and the iray-3delight converter. I'm assuming this is some sort of problem with the mesh. Is there anyway to remedy this?
