Odd problem/request-Postgre CMS on Linux

Many of the regulars probably know that I run Studio in Linux by way of WINE. And that is where my problem starts.

I'm not running the CMS because the Valentina based CMS, while it will run in WINE, is even buggier/more prone to database problems and very slow under WINE, more so than it is in Windows. (Very slow...snails move faster)

So, fine swap over to PostgreSQL.

Except, it won't run!

"Execution of PostgreSQL by a user with administrative permissions is not permitted."

Now, I am NOT running in a root account or anything, so the Linux account info isn't being passed on to WINE. The WINE profile is being seen as an admin account. I can run the Linux native version in my user account.

That's the background and problem...now for the request. Would it be possible to pass the config and database over to the Linux native version? I'm fairly sure I can configure the Linux side of things to find/use the Studio files...it's just would it be possible to use the 'external' version? Could Studio recognize it?

Or is there an alternate way of configuring the Windows version...manually, because the automatic configuration from installing it isn't working?

I'd really like to get it working, because I have several things I'm making that I'd like to include metadata for when I package them up. I prefer using the Content Library for most things.

Whichever way you go Mjc, you are going to need access to some or all of the DAZ customizations in order to resolve the issue or setup the Linux version. Unfortunately, even though Postgresql is open source, the DAZ customizations necessary to make it work with DAZ Studio are not. So, in short, by the grace of DAZ ...

BTW, which distribution are you running? Ubuntu?

Basically, I should probably just give up on the idea of getting it working on this machine and just transfer the finished stuff to the other computer...with Windows and just do the final set up on it.

But according to the ChangeLog, WINE fixed this issue, late last year...about 5 months ago.

And with the Valentina CMS running...it takes forever to open Studio or switch content directories, once in it.

As for customizations...as far as I can tell, there aren't any, at least to the executables. Yeah, the database is a custom setup, but the rest is just standard config options that are passed to Postgre when Studio is started.

You might try PMing Kendall Sears - or change the subject line to explicitly state the problem - IIRC, he is running a central PostgreS database on Linux for several instances of Studio.

That's what I thought...I'll keep playing with it for a few days, but for myself, I don't really use it. But it is really needed for content creation...
