Making mouthpieces, helmets, and similar "sort-of" conforming items in DS

Hi all. I'm interested in making some sort of mouthpieces like the ones shown in the following link: http://odilicious.deviantart.com/art/They-come-in-pair-321284125

Ideally I'd like it to be a conforming item to adjust for different characters. However, all my attempts at conforming something like this mess up the smoothness of the piece because it's conforming to the shape of the mouth.

Is there a way to make something conform to the general build of a face, but not the mouth? I'm trying to keep the mouthpiece smooth. Thanks.

You can use a Rigidity Group, by selecting some or all of the vertices with the Geometry Editor tool, right-clicking and selecting Geometry Assignment>Create Rigidity Group from Selected. This wills top auto-morphs from distorting the mesh, but then you will probably need to create custom morphs for the shapes you want to use.

Hi Richard -- do I create the rigidity group before or after making it a conforming item?
