G'day All,
The title says it all...
Can anyone tell me how to make a mirror out of a primitive plane for a NVDIA Iray render using DAZ Studio 4.8?
Had a few attempts and got a sheen from the plane surface but no luck achieving a reflection so far.:long:

A good way to start would be to make sure both the plane primitive and it's surface are selected, then go to the "Shader Presets/Iray/DAZ Uber" folder and double click on the "Metal - Silver" preset. You can then fine tune the shader settings as you wish, but there are a few things to consider when creating a material to simulate an actual mirror and not just a flat piece of metal. The reflectivity comes from the mirrored surface, but specular and secondary "transparent" reflections occour slightly in front of the reflective surface... on the front of the glass

Keep in mind that a real glass mirror is a piece of clear glass approximately 1/8 to 1/2 inches thick.... the larger the mirror, the thicker the glass. The backside of the glass is polished and cleaned in the factory, sprayed with a special solution, then coated with a silver solution which bonds the silver (actually sprayed on in a watery liquid state which looks clear until it contacts the coated glass, at which point it turns silver.) When this dries you are effectively left with a two-way mirror... being able to see through from the back, but not from the front. To make it into a standard mirror, the back is then coated with (usually) a grey paint coating to protect the silver coating from damage and oxidation. If you've ever seen an antique mirror that has dark "waterspots" or blackened areas, that is where the silver has oxidized and tarnished.
