Hi, i m looking to purchase some lighting presets for my scene, is it a smart move to buy a newly released lighting preset just meant for 3delight when Iray is coming soon? for example i just bought Inane's glory Photo Point and Shoot https://www.daz3d.com/inaneglory-s-photo-studio-point-and-shoot-3, and thought of getting others from Inane and other vendors. Or should i just hold back and wait for Iray presets? Will Iray be more superior in rendering?

Thanks

The Point and Shoot series of lights are area lights (physical objects turned into light emitting surfaces). 3Delight and Iray use different shaders to create area lights so area lights that work in 3Delight don't auto-convert into area light in Iray unfortunately. There will be a new set of Point and Shoot Lights specifically redesigned for Iray available soon. It will include Iray versions all of the lights from Point and Shoot 1-3 plus Iray specific presets for using those lights (but no props or textures from the original sets). Release dates and other stuff are still up in the air but there is supposed to be an additional discount for people who have already bought other Point and Shoot products. Should be that the more of the 3 sets you have the bigger the discount but that hasn't been finalized so don't quote me on that yet.

You might well consider having some Iray render settings presets in the updated P&S product as well, since both the environmental settings (should studio lighting be 'scene only'?) and the 'film' settings for indoor studio lighting (unlike the outdoor defaults) will be different. Some assorted tonemapping settings for different film white balances could figure into this as well.

Yes, I've included some special Iray-only presets and render settings in the set. And yes, scene only is best (most of the time)
