How do I make pictures bigger when rendering?

I want to make my renders larger, but when I try to change the aspect size or the pixel size and they revert to their old values automatically.

Can you show a screenshot of your render settings window?
Here's where I'm at right now.
And what size do you want? Or are you usign File>Save and thinking the 91 pixel square image is the render?
Anything bigger than 72kb and 530 x 865 pixels. :D
That's what I'm asking to control. When I do try to change the values, they go right back to 530 x 865 pixels.
By hitting the Preset Render settings, I can make things a little bigger, if I choose the high Barefoot Dancer example. But I can't control exactly what I'm rendering.
You are saving to the 'Active Viewport' size, change the dropdown to Custom or one of the other ratios, then change the pixel size
Thanks! I figured it out thanks to your suggestion...
Now how do I change the background colors? I'm getting all black backgrounds. How do I change them to white?
You have an odd aspect ratio and it is constrained. Set your aspect ratio to your final output….probably 16 by 9 if this is for video.

Go to Window > Style > Customize Colours, and you will find it at the bottom.
If you want to use a background image, go to Window > Panes (Tabs) > Environment.
