Lights for Iray

PatroklosPatroklos Posts: 533

From what I have seen in the Iray render thread, Iray looks to have most potential for photoreal renders, I have seen some spectacularly good portraits! So I will try to master it.

First thing I notice is that in the latest version of 4.8 there are now no Iray lights under create.

So what lights can I use?

Do I need shaders to replace Daz shaders like for AoA ?

The Photometric Spot and point lights have been combined with the regular lights. When you have Iray as the render engine the PM controls will show and have effect, with 3delight as the render engine they will be hidden. Conversely, some 3Delight features (such as Shadow Type) will b removed for iray.

Also! If you load up a light set created for 3Delight, you can select a point or spot from that set, click create spotlight or create point light, and use the "copy and replace" option to put the new light in the same location!

    Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a "sun"? Andoria works, but I would like an alternative.

    Info on shaders?

What does render quality relate to? Is higher better?

Quick test using Andoria highlights the fact that the image in the perspective view is pretty much a "negative" of what renders as far as light is concerned.
