importing custom body parts - newbies questions
Hello!
I'm relatively new to DAZ, so I have some general questions about a little project I have in mind. The answers are probably already out there, I just don't know where to look. If anybody could just point me in the right direction, it would be very helpful.
Here's what I want to do:
I have made a figure in DAZ Studio and exported it as OBJ, then imported it into 3D Studio Max (I've pretty much experience with the latter). In 3D Studio I edited the model further with the goal of making it 3D-printable. Some parts were more complicated than others, expecially the teeth.
So I thought it would be a good idea to make a set of better suitable teeth (and gums), import them into DAZ and join them into the genesis figure, so for future models I have the work already done.
I think I could do this by parenting the new teeth to the original ones and somehow delete the latter ones.
But I would rather like to do it "the right way" as intended by DAZ, i.e. to make custom content that in theory could be downloaded by other users and work right away without them needing to adjust it to an existing model. I also doubt that just parenting will keep the teeth fitting when the head is modified.
How would I do this?
I have also more demanding projects in mind. For example, I like the possibilities offered by the genesis figures, but there are still things I'm missing. I would like to add wrikles, saggy cheeks and other non-topmodel features to the face. I don't have the resources to do a new figure from the scratch, let alone one that can compete with the genesis ones, so I would just like to remake some parts that then can be imported into the existing standard model. Is this possible?

The logical way would be to use a GeoGraft - essentially model you piece so that at its boundary it matches the geometry (vertices and edge loop) of the area it is replacing, then use the Geometry Editor in DS to assign the new item to be a GeoGraft and to set the replaced geometry to be hidden. DAZ has in fact done this for the Genesis 2 Female at least, and you should find the parts in the downloadable content that came with DS, though it may not do precisely what you want.
Thanks a lot. Will post again after I've tried this.
