Posible to only Tile single MAp Vs all?

edited December 1969 in The Commons

Hi there,

is it possible when using the tile feature to only tile specific maps? I am trying to tail my bump that is a simple noise image, however the tile bumps everything it seems, my diffuse maps are not check boarded all over the figure when i try to condense the bump via tilling.

thanks

If you are comfortable using Shader Mixer, you can import the shader for your object and add separate Tiler bricks. You may also want to check out this, and see if it suits your needs:

thanks, never used shade mixer, im very new to DAZ tryign to make the change from Poser.

What I am trying to do is put a bump on the DAZ3D Horse 2, the noise bump with it is a bit too lumpy and big.

I am using iray so not sure how or if I can use those tile shaders you linked ? in iRay?

in iray there only seems to be one place to use tile for maps and it tiles everything, that is my question is there away to tile certain maps e.g. bump only?

I don't know what's in the release version, but with the beta uber shader, you can bump map only.

There are a lot of spaces for maps. I think there are 3 different bump map spaces for the base, flake, and top coat layers... but I'm not at my computer at the moment.

One other solution (though not ideal, but at least you can continue your work) would be to take the map you are using for bumps and make a copy of the image file. Then, in a 2D proggie, tile it and save it as a new image file. Finally, set your new map as the bump map in DAZ. I would imagine there will be many new products getting re-written in the future in Iray flavor.

    Hope this helps.

yes lots of maps slots, but only one Tile option that tiles all the maps unless i am missing something?

When I set Tile Horizontal and or Vertically it tiles bump and Diffuse and spec and its a mess on animals and humans etc... :-/

Yea this is the only way I have figured out how to do it.

I hop IRAY sets up the Tile options per map Vs global setting it makes no sense, tiling a diffuse map no a living creature or most anything is not a nice thing to look at :P

    Actually, it's easy.

Once an Iray shader is put on the object:
Click on the image map, select Image Editor.
There are two tabs in the middle: Instance Color, and Instance Tiling. Select Instance Tiling. And voila!

Iray lets you tile every map individually.

Hee! Just passing on the love! I was surprised when someone mentioned it here, too.

Also, I'll point out that the tiling won't be visible in Texture Mode, you have to click on Iray view (or do a test render) before it tiles.

Great Iray info here - thanks, timmins.william!

Thanks for the info. I was having exactly the same issue myself, and this thread got me started in the right direction. :)

Just tried this with an opacity map while having the regular tiling in the shader set to 20 x 20 and it's not working for me, maybe it's broken in the lastest DS version ?

By latest do you mean beta? And are you looking at it in NVIDIA/rendered result? Because what appears in other display modes isn't necessarily accurate.

It works as of the last non-beta version, just checked.

I just discovered that thread and so that great information !

... I forgot to explore the "image editor", always using the "layered image editor"...

    thank you.

  • Hello there! Is there a way to move the tiles at a surface but not the cutout opacity along with it?

  • The previous replies apply to adjsuting any map separately from others, it doesn't matter what they are for.
