a combination of particles, dynamic waterplane? wind physics?

was thinking of dragons flying something like the fjords shown on Vikings episodes.
or the mystic gorge :)

The easiest way, if you are wanting a realistic look, is to get some video footage and either compose it in post production, or (I've done this a bunch) make sure the video is relatively high contrast and then map it to the displacement and color channels of a plane.

Sure it's CG. It's still the geometry that is being rendered.

Remember, if the final output hasn't been filmed or photographed, then it's all an elaborate ruse - a fake. It's like saying using a photographic texture invalidates the render as CG.

I remember reading an interview with George Lucas where the interviewer was asking him if he thought having Jar Jar Binks, a completely digital character, made the movie less "real". He replied, "Less real? How? It's all fake."

But, hey, I'm crazy so it really doesn't matter. :D

Misty, did you see this yet? Was done with Carrara 6 I think, involves meatball particles and planes for the water: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTxsGnqkB_0

the guy who did it put up a tutorial showing how: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sd483fzp6vuxmdi/WaterfallTutorial.pdf?dl=0

I thought it was amazingly realistic water work, all done via cgi, and all in Carrara too, so seems it's definitely possible to go this route. I opened a thread on this on the forums around the beginning of the year actually.

JonStark, metaballs may work better than meatball particles for water, the latter ok for a bolognaise sauce flow perhaps.
