Losing my mind

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hello to all

I am a COMPLETE and TOTAL world class NOOB. I have little experience with Daz Studio and I am kindly asking for a bit of help. If possible of course. I am trying to figure out what the hell am I doing wrong with rendering. No matter which light preset I use the rendered result willl always be the same. Meaning - rendered image will always show some default light preset and not the one I used. I am attaching a few pictures for a better understanding of my total lack of knowledge. One picture shows which light preset I used and the other how it actually turns after rendering. Well..not exactly after rendering, i don't wait that long but the image basically shows what I'm trying to say. I am not even sure if all this makes any sense at all. I apologise for that. O btw I did try moving and rotating lights but but the result was always the default light preset or something.

This is rendered in DAZ Studio 4.8 and you are rendering with the Render Engine Iray. Probably your lighting mode is Sun & Sky. Might be the reason all your images look the same, the default Sunlight is coming always from the same side and angle.

The light presets in the screenshots are made for 3Delight. Go to the Render Settings Tab and switch the Render Engine to 3Delight and you should get a diffrent render result.

Ah! You are right!! Indeed I was using Iray engine and ended up with same results!! Thank you very very much!!! Like you said I changed it to 3Delight and it is indeed a different result now :) Sorry, Im just that dumb. Though I must admit the Iray render does look waaay better. Is there a way to change the light position so that it don't always come from the side like on the picture I posted in my first post? And if it can be done where do I do it? Once again thank you for your kind reply :D

Don´t worry, Iray is new for most people. That includes me. ;-)

This short tutorial may get you started: Creating And Lighting A Scene With Iray In DAZ Studio

This thread demonstrates why DAZ made a rather large mistake in making Iray the default render engine in 4.8. Suddenly, almost every 'getting started' tutorial and video in the universe is wrong.

Agree, but since we have already talked about switching back to 3Delight, the official documentation could be helpful now:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/start

    http://www.daz3d.com/help/help-daz-3d-video-tutorials/

I don´t have the time to experiment much with Iray. So hopefully the documentation and videos will be updated soon.
Otherwise I prefer to dig deeper into 3Delight, before I start from scratch with Iray.

@nordic_myst: Your knowledge about Iray will exceed mine in a few days. :-)

Not only that, but the default blank scene starts with a headlight attached to the camera, and an environment light set up on the skydome... and environment lights do not switch off the headlight... and the tonemapping settings are just right for a bright sunny day outdoor scene. It all has to be adjusted manually. Every time you open a new scene.

Wouldn't it work to create a blank scene with things set the way you want and set Studio to use that, instead of the default?

    Edit > Preferences > Startup

    and

    Edit > Preferences > Scene...

loading the same scene file in both locations should override the default. (Not sure if it will turn off the headlamp, though)

Create a camera in the scene and set its headlamp to off.

Yes, but does it save that off setting...I've had saved scenes that certain settings aren't saved for certain things...notably scenes with the UberEnv environsphere...they always load with "Visible in Render" off...no matter how many times I save them with it on.
