INSTALLER - basic error
Hi all
Chris here, new user.
Not new animator though, I've been on Poser since v3, Bryce etc., Lightwave since v3, XSI since before XSI, Blender and use Maya and Adobe at work.
Now just started on Carrara.
Been having problems installing content and software using the DIM.
Solved one of the basic Install Failed errors that was hanging up perhaps 20% of my content downloads and couldn't find mention of this error elsewhere, so here I am, reporting it to all. Forgive me if you've seen this one before, or if it's too basic for you...
I centralized all my downloads into a MAIN CONTENT folder on my F drive..
Mostly everything downloaded well but there were install fail errors due to program paths not being previously mapped out for the downloader. Not a problem, I defined those paths and continued
However, there were, after that, yet more Install Fails, this time due to the same error:
the log brought up this:
Installing product : AR Ghost Marines
Could not extract file : F:/MAIN CONTENT/ReadMe's/pics/dazlogo.jpg
Product installation failed : AR Ghost Marines
What? no auto overwrite for multiple installs??
Well, no, apparently not.
SO, in a nutshell:
for some reason, the earlier install packages unspooled the DAZ 3D logo.jpg into a readme folder.
Not a problem, right?
Not for the first installer.
The second installer (and all the subsequent ones) try to unzip that same dazlogo.jpg into the same readme folder, see that there's already one file there (written by the previous installer) and fails.
The workaround I've been able to use is simply to go to the readme folder and delete the dazlogo.jpg file.
That allows the next installer in line to succeed.
Of course, then you have to delete the new dazlogo.jpg file to allow the next one to install, etc., which is a pain when you have over 40 of them (as I did), but it works, so no biggie after all.
Thought I'd share if any other newbie or person who hasn't met this problem before would like to save themselves time and botheration.
Jm2c of course, and YMMV
All the best!
Chris

Hi Richard
No, I didn't think about doing that...
But I just did!
Thanks
