    Yes, yes it can. If using 3delight, it's the same as before.
    If you are using Iray, go to (render setting -> Environment-> Draw Dome->off, Draw Ground -> off) Default is on.

    transparency depends on the file type you save in.
    If you render an image without a background in order for the file to retain the transparency in background use either TIFF or PNG as your target saved file.
