Script for selecting objects and replacing textures with same name simultaneously?

Is there a script that can allow me to do the following:

  1. Select multiple objects; and
  2. Select, say, "Material_1" (just an example), and it applies the same image (assuming the image is selected) to all instances of "Material_1" among all of the objects selected?

This kind of script would be great for multiple objects of the same kind.

If there is such a script available to purchase or get for free, feel free to post.  Thanks!

If you use instances for the objects, then whatever change you make to the original applies to all of them.

You can copy and paste a material to multiple objects at once. If you copy a single material, it will apply that material to all materials regardless of name, so material-1 will be applied to material-1 as well as marerial-2. If however you copy 2 materials, EG material-1 and material-2, then select a bunch of objects and apply, it will take the material name into account and only apply it to materials with the same name.
